D.o.A: The Third and Final Report is the second studio album by industrial music pioneers Throbbing Gristle. It was released on 4 December 1978 through record label Industrial Records.
The first 1000 records issued were enclosed with a card calendar with color photos of a little girl on a bed. Another pressing of 1000 copies was recut with false track markers (the "bands" visible on a vinyl disc) to give it the appearance of having sixteen tracks all of exactly equal length. The single "United", which had garnered some popularity due to its relatively accessible style, was included on the album sped up to last sixteen seconds from its original length of just over four minutes.
The album was included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
On the album, TG member Chris Carter recalled, "DOA showcased some of our strongest work and established the course we would head in.''

Last night I grabbed a six-pac and sat down to watch TV
The rerun was quite boring so I switched to channel three
A police man with a shotgun was what I could se
And he said: Dead on arrival murder of first degree
I saw a girl on a strecher she had three slugs in her headWhat a treatment of a cute face, to mess it up with lead
I knew that face from somewhere it was a whore named Marie
And she was dead on arrival murder of first degree
I admit I was embaressed, I felt a bit of shame
But the way the whore had teased me she had her self to blame
She could fool around but she should not have fooled with me
So now she's dead on arrival murder of first degree
All of you people who are listening to this song
Never visit whores cause it will only end up wrong
They will ruin you just like they've ruined me
And you'll be dead on arrival murder of first degree
Dead on arrival murder of first degree
Dead on arrival murder of first degree
Dead on arrival murder of first degree
The lyrics of Throbbing Gristle's song "Dead On Arrival" tell the story of a violent and disturbing event as witnessed by the singer while watching TV. The song opens with the singer describing a mundane evening at home, drinking beer and watching boring reruns on TV. However, the atmosphere quickly changes when they switch to channel three and witness a police officer holding a shotgun, suggesting a scene of violence.
The singer sees a girl being wheeled on a stretcher with multiple gunshot wounds to her head. The stark image of violence and brutality against this young woman, referred to as a prostitute named Marie, is described in a way that highlights the shocking contrast between her former beauty and her tragic fate. The use of the term "mess it up with lead" underscores the irreversible destruction caused by the bullets.
The singer reveals a personal connection to the victim, suggesting that they knew Marie, adding a layer of complexity to the story. Despite the violent act that has taken place, the singer expresses a mix of emotions, including embarrassment and shame. The lyrics imply a sense of moral conflict, as the singer wrestles with feelings of guilt and deflects responsibility onto the victim by insinuating that she had brought her fate upon herself through her behavior.
The song concludes with a warning to the listeners, advising them to avoid relationships with prostitutes to prevent a similar fate. The repeated chorus of "Dead on arrival murder of first degree" serves as a chilling refrain that reinforces the violent and final nature of the event witnessed by the singer. Overall, the lyrics of "Dead On Arrival" delve into themes of violence, guilt, and personal responsibility, painting a bleak picture of the consequences of destructive behavior and choices.
