Sun
Thumbelina Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once there was the sun
Bright and warm and wonderful
Just like the love within my heart
Now there's no more sun
Winter has killed everything
Although it's dark December
Forever I'll remember sun

Overall Meaning

Thumbelina's song "Sun" is a poignant ballad about love lost and hopelessness. This song tells the story of a former love, compared to the warmth and brightness of the sun at its height, that ultimately fades away with the coming of winter. The singer compares her love to the sun, describing it as "bright and warm and wonderful." However, with winter comes darkness and death, and the sun disappears. Despite this, the singer will always remember the light and warmth of the sun, and by extension, the love she has lost.

The song's lyrics paint a picture of the natural world, using the changing of the seasons and the disappearance of the sun to represent the loss of the singer's love. The final line is particularly impactful as it emphasizes the lasting impact that the sun, and love, have left on the singer's life. The song's slow tempo and melancholy melody enhance the somber mood of the lyrics, creating a powerful emotional experience for the listener.

This one actually made me sad when I was young, it feels like genuine mourning.

@lyriccjenkins3134

Although short, the song speaks to me so deeply

I agree, like what happened to Matthew Perry, who’s 1 of the stars of “Friends”.

And when listening to Jodi Benson’s singing tune + the music, I’m hearing “Let Me Be Your Wings”, but when Thumbelina comes back, telling about both Winter and the sun, I don’t think I’m hearing the tune of “Let Me Be Your Wings”. (I could be wrong.)

it's because this song is about losing a loved one. think about it, she lost the love of her life, she's far away from home, she has no idea where she is, and she has to rely on the charity of strangers to get through this point in time we can definitely feel how sad she is, even if we haven't lost someone near and dear to us yet. (what she and pretty much no one realize is Cornelius is still alive, but he needs to be thawed out right away..he was pretty much flash frozen but that didn't kill him outright.)

@gingerisevil02

It's a song about crushed dreams and hopes. xx

Nostalgia's one hell of a drug.
