Thursday released their debut album, Waiting, in late 1999 with original guitarist Bill Henderson, who left the band in 2000 and was replaced by Steve Pedulla. The band gained popularity with the release of their second album, Full Collapse, in 2001, and released their third album and major label debut, War All the Time, in 2003, which reached number seven on the US Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. Thursday released their fourth album, A City by the Light Divided, in 2006, and two further albums, Common Existence and No Devolución, before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2011. In a January 2013 interview, Geoff Rickly confirmed that the band had actually disbanded. However, the band announced a reunion in 2016. Their reunion would conclude with a performance at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, NY in March 2019.
The band has been considered influential to the post-hardcore music scene in the 2000s, and is credited as one of the key bands to popularize the darker emo sound and screaming vocals which came to prominence at the time.

Thursday Lyrics

Lie with me I said and lying's what she always did and always will.
All these thoughts keep leading back to him.
And no signs from Cinema.
No city skyline.
No paper scraps and no unfolding at five o' clock
Your voice skips as it always did and always will
It's the light from your sunless room
Scattered in pieces all around you.
Recession of these thoughtless forms
Reciting every line as a way of life and a way of death in time
We heard Ian Curtis kill himself again in your bed.
In these twenty four hours we stretched into a room
Filled with "Heart and Soul."
This is the way.
Step inside and march in the procession of empty hearts.
Love has torn us apart.
It's a part of me a part of you
In time we're falling apart together.
The song "Ian Curtis" by Thursday is a complex and emotional tribute to the late lead singer of Joy Division, who took his own life in 1980. The lyrics begin with a reference to Curtis's distinctive singing voice, which was often described as haunting and unique. The singer of the song reflects on the way that Curtis's voice seemed to fill the airwaves of the radio, creating an unforgettable presence. The line "lie with me I said and lying's what she always did and always will" suggests that the singer is seeking comfort and connection, but is unable to find it.
The chorus of the song is a repeated refrain about how the singer's thoughts keep returning to Ian Curtis, despite the passage of time. There is a sense of unresolved grief and longing in these lines, as if the singer is struggling to come to terms with the loss of someone who meant a great deal to them.
The final verse of the song is a bit more abstract, with references to "heart and soul" and a "procession of empty hearts." These lines suggest that the singer is grappling with the idea of love, and the way that it can both connect and separate people. The last line of the song, "in time we're falling apart together," is a poignant reminder that even in the face of tragedy and loss, we are still connected to one another in some way.

Thursday was my teens and 20s. I'm now 40. This music was the soundtrack to growing up for me. Glassjaw and Thursday, the most feeling ever put into albums by singers.
