Thursday released their debut album, Waiting, in late 1999 with original guitarist Bill Henderson, who left the band in 2000 and was replaced by Steve Pedulla. The band gained popularity with the release of their second album, Full Collapse, in 2001, and released their third album and major label debut, War All the Time, in 2003, which reached number seven on the US Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. Thursday released their fourth album, A City by the Light Divided, in 2006, and two further albums, Common Existence and No Devolución, before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2011. In a January 2013 interview, Geoff Rickly confirmed that the band had actually disbanded. However, the band announced a reunion in 2016. Their reunion would conclude with a performance at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, NY in March 2019.
The band has been considered influential to the post-hardcore music scene in the 2000s, and is credited as one of the key bands to popularize the darker emo sound and screaming vocals which came to prominence at the time.

Thursday Lyrics

It's all around but can't be seen
Can you hear it in the parking lot?
It only speaks when spoken to
Can you find it in the marathon?
The more you take the more you leave
Can you see them in a pane of glass?
You know them but they don't know you
What gets lost but never found?
What could fasten two
Yet only touches one?
Who could make it hurt
As much as it did before?
(You could tie a string
Around the place where it used to show)
I can hear the ocean when I say your name
In the yellow hem of the sea's blue skirt
You're the last asleep on a one-way train
It's been eight years if it's been a day
You can see her in a pane of glass
You think you know her but you don't
You share a family but you don't share a name
Some things run deeper than blood
No answers
No answers when you're not around
The lyrics to Thursday's song "No Answers" suggest a theme of emptiness when someone is not around. The opening lines "Can you feel it in the dead of night? It's all around but can't be seen" sets an eerie tone, almost as if there is a presence that cannot be physically observed but is still felt. The subsequent lines "Can you hear it in the parking lot? It only speaks when spoken to" suggests that this presence may be a form of isolation, where the individual is left with their thoughts and only has themselves to speak to.
The second verse further emphasizes this loneliness, posing a series of questions that describe how something precious can be lost, or how memories can remain in the mind but not in physical form. The lines "You can see her in a pane of glass, You think you know her but you don't, You share a family but you don't share a name, Some things run deeper than blood" present the idea that even though someone may appear to be familiar, there may still be a sense of disconnection or lack of understanding.
Overall, "No Answers" appears to be a reflection on the emotional emptiness that can come with someone's absence, and the lingering questions and memories that remain. It touches on themes of isolation, loss, and the search for deeper meaning in relationships.

Love the atmospheric-feel to this song. Has a "Circuits of Fever" feel to it and to quote Ron Burgundy, "And in no way is that depressing." Great album.

Oh my god, I love it. Granted, I am already a big fan of ambient music, so I am not put off by this at all.
