Home Again
Thyrfing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The long, hard yers at sea, have taken their toll on me
For thirteen winters and a spring, I have been so far away

So far, far away from the place I call home
A place so beautiful, it's where I want to die
Have you ever seen the rivers of Nyfors?
Or the majestic view at the mountains of Brevik?
Tyreso, you have left a mark in my heart
Home I am coming home again

As I think of home, the memories burn inside of me
Does my son still remember me?
Does his mother recall how life used to be?

Will she ever recognize this Grey and scarred old man?
Will I ever see her smile again?
Will she meet me at the shore when my ship comes in?

Mother Svea, you have left a mark in my heart
So I am coming home again

For home and kindred I have sailed so far
For home and kindred I am coming home again

Overall Meaning

The Thyrfing song "Home Again" is a powerful exploration of themes of displacement and longing for home. The opening lines speak of the physical toll that a life at sea has taken on the singer, who has spent over a dozen years away from the place they call home. They describe their home in evocative terms, as a place of great beauty and significance where they long to die. The following lines go on to highlight the specific natural wonders of the region, including the rivers of Nyfors and the mountains of Brevik.

The next verses turn to the personal relationships that the singer has left behind. They wonder if their son still remembers them, and if his mother still thinks about the way their lives used to be. The lyrics speak to the pain of separation and the uncertain future that the singer faces upon their return. However, there is a sense of hopefulness that runs through the song, with the repetition of the phrase "I am coming home again" acting as a refrain that reinforces the idea of being reunited with loved ones.

Overall, the mood of the song is wistful and reflective, with a strong emotional pull that speaks to the universal desire for a sense of belonging and connection.

I still remember when I came into Cogumelo Records store (home of many famous bands which amongst them Sarcofago and Sepultura) and listened to this song playing. I asked the store employee (I think his name was Romulo) what was playing and he showed me this album. I instanlty bought it and still have it to this day.
