Carried Away
Tiësto Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
I've got sense to hold in
Tempted just to make an ugly scene
No I'm not as proper
My money's in copper
Ripped down from the brownstones to the street
Listen, I'm your friend, don't quote me
Yes, please don't ever note me as your friend
Who says we have cold hearts?
Acting out our old parts
Dance before my favorite little scene, oh oh oh oh
I get carried away, carried away, from you
When I'm open and afraid
'Cause I'm sorry, sorry 'bout that
Sorry 'bout things that I've said
Always let it get to my head
All your appeal, once again with feeling
Higher education making sense
Justify your thesis, certain that you need this
Tell me what your point is in defense
I get carried away, carried away, from you
When I'm open and afraid
'Cause I'm sorry, sorry 'bout that
Sorry 'bout things that I've said
Always let it get to my head
I get carried away, carried away, from you
When I'm open and afraid
'Cause I'm sorry, sorry 'bout that
Sorry 'bout things that I've said
Always let it get to my head
I get carried away, carried away, from you
When I'm open and afraid
'Cause I'm sorry, sorry 'bout that
Sorry 'bout things that I've said
Always let it get to my head
I get carried away, carried away, from you
When I'm open and afraid
'Cause I'm sorry, sorry 'bout that
Sorry 'bout things that I've said
Always let it get to my head
The lyrics to Tiësto's song "Carried Away" explore themes of personal emotional struggle and the consequences of letting one's emotions and insecurities take control. The opening lines suggest that the singer's heart, metaphorically represented as golden, holds a sense of value and integrity. However, they also express the temptation to act in a disruptive and confrontational manner, admitting a potential for aggression and ugliness.
The song then delves into the singer's self-awareness, acknowledging their lack of social propriety and financial stability. The mention of money being in copper signifies a sense of poverty or struggle. The line "ripped down from the brownstones to the street" suggests a fall from grace or a loss of status, further emphasizing their difficulties.
In the following verse, the singer claims to be a friend but implies that they're not worthy of being acknowledged as such. This suggests a lack of trust or reliability. They question the idea of having cold hearts and suggest that they and others are merely acting out roles. They mention their favorite little scene, possibly referring to the comfort they find in their own emotional turmoil.
The chorus reflects the title of the song, expressing the singer's tendency to get carried away from their loved ones when they are open and afraid. They apologize for the things they've said, acknowledging that they often let their emotions cloud their judgment and impact their relationships.
Overall, the lyrics of "Carried Away" highlight the internal conflicts and struggles the singer faces in maintaining relationships and managing their emotions.
