Hunger
Tia Gostelow Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I feel it in my gut man
Thought I saw you running high
Seemed to like the woodwork of the place where I lay
Got no signs that you tried

And all the lines are changing
Whatever helps you sleep at night
The difference is it's taking
Too much of your time

Why
Do we feed off the same line
You're kind of hungry for it
Yeah, take a bite
I feel
Like we're walking down the same line
You're kind of hungry for it
Yeah, take a bite

I sawed my legs right off
To watch you walk by
It's cool you hadn't realised
Keys can't copy
My wrists break for the night

Why
Do we feed off the same line
You're kind of huungry for it
Yeah, take a bite
I feel
Like we're walking down the same line
You're kind of hungry for it
Yeah, take a bite

What you want is what I've had
But it's turned into something bad
It feels alright
To help you out this time
What you want is what I need
But I was there to help you breathe
I hope for you
You don't let it break your mind

Why
Do we feed off the same line
You're kind of huungry for it
Yeah, take a bite
I feel
Like we're walking down the same line
You're kind of hungry for it
Yeah, take a bite

What you want is what I've had
But it's turned into something bad
It feels alright
To help you out this time
What you want is what I need
But I was there to help you breathe
I hope for you
You don't let it break your mind

What you want is what I've had
And it's turned into something bad

It feels alright
To help you out this time

Overall Meaning

In "Hunger", Tia Gostelow sings about a strained relationship where both parties are seeking the same thing and craving attention from one another. The opening lines "I feel it in my gut man, thought I saw you running high" suggest that the singer can sense that something is not quite right between them and their partner. The partner seems oblivious and distracted, enjoying their surroundings while the singer feels left behind and unimportant. The lines "Got no signs that you tried" further emphasize the point that the partner is not putting the effort into the relationship, causing frustration and a sense of helplessness for the singer.

The chorus further explores this idea of both parties being hungry for something, but there is a feeling that they are not quite sure what it is or how to satisfy it. The lines "Take a bite" suggest that they are both searching for fulfillment and are willing to take risks to find it. The second verse adds to the tension, with the singer suggesting that they have gone to great lengths to get the attention of their partner, even going so far as to "saw my legs right off to watch you walk by". The final lines of the song "What you want is what I've had, and it's turned into something bad" hint at a failed previous relationship that has now become toxic and unfulfilling. Overall, "Hunger" is a raw and honest reflection of the complexities of modern relationships and human desires.

The first few songs from this album, including this one, are really well-written! I love the moving, almost unflinching energy conveyed by the chord progressions and Tia's vocal performance in this track. Nostalgic, bracing and empowering
