No more
Tick tick...BOOM Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No more
Walking up six flights of stairs
Or throwing down the key
Because there is no buzzer

No more
Walking thirteen blocks
With thirty pounds of laundry
In the fuckin' dead of winter

No more faulty wiring
No more painted floors
No more spitting out my ultra bright
On top of dirty dishes
In the one and only sink

Hello, to my walk in closets
Tidy as Park Avenue
Hello, my butcher block table
I could get used, I could get used
I could get used to you

No more
Climbing over sleeping people
Before you get out the door
Of your own building

No more
Noxious fumes from gas heaters
That are illegal
Or will blow up while you are sleeping

No more
Leaky ceilings
No more
Holes in the floor

No more
Taking a shower in the kitchen
While your roommate's eating breakfast
And you are getting water on his corn flakes

Hello, to shiny
New parquet wood floors
As waxed as a wealthy girl's legs
Hello, dear Mister Dishwasher
I could get used, I could get used
I could get used, I could get used to you
I could get used to you

No more, exotic
No more, neurotic
No more anything
But pleasantly robotic

We are moving on up
We are moving on up
To the East Side
To the East Side
To a deluxe apartment
In the sky

What's that?
Oh, come on
Hold on, breathe

Easy
What are you doing?
It's him
Ah, hold the phone

Hello, to dear Mister Doorman
Who looks like Captain Kangaroo
Hello dear fellow, and how do you do?
I could get used, I could get used
Even seduced, even seduced
I could get used to you

Oh, yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "No More" by Tick tick...BOOM highlights the struggles of living in a run-down apartment by depicting the frustrations of the singer with the everyday problems they have faced in their past living arrangement. The song begins with the singer describing the discomfort they faced while living in their previous apartment - from walking up six flights of stairs to get to their apartment, to hauling 30 pounds of laundry across town in the winter. The frustration is highlighted by the mention of faulty wiring, painted floors, and the struggle of spitting toothpaste in a dirty sink.

The second half of the song demonstrates the positive feelings that the singer has after moving into a new apartment. The new apartment is described as having shiny new floors, which are waxed to perfection, and a luxurious butcher's block table. It depicts this transition as moving "on up to the East Side to a deluxe apartment in the sky." This luxurious transition is complete with a doorman who looks like Captain Kangaroo, and the singer could even be seduced by them; that’s how much they are enjoying their new luxurious lifestyle.

@Antoni Zajkowski NVM him, it's either he's just hating or he's one of the few who claims that talent is only for people who are privileged enough to have learned something since they were a child.

B Blackmon

@Blood Ink. you really pulled up just to hate on a dead man... takes a special kind of a hoe to do that.

Antoni Zajkowski

@Blood Ink. what?? what do you mean

I just wish Jonathan Larson wasn't taken from us so young. Think of all the contributions he could have additionally made. But I love the fact that these songs were preserved and in that sense, he lives on to inspire others. I just wonder what other music he might have written if he was still living today. He would be in his sixties now.
