Shoes
Tiga Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'd love to comb your hair
Your hair is such a mess
Just take off that dress
I'd love to comb your hair

I don't like my hair neat
I don't like my hair neat
I don't like my hair neat
I don't like my hair neat

Just take off your shoes
Just take off your shoes
You've nothing left to lose
Just take off your shoes

These shoes stay on my feet(on my feet)
These shoes stay on my feet(on my feet)
These shoes stay on my feet(on my feet)
These shoes stay on my feet(on my feet)

What's that sound
I like that sound
I love that sound
It's the sound of my shoes
It's the sound of my shoes

I'd like to hold your hand
Wearing my brand new gloves
This must be real love
I'd love to hold your hand

Those gloves don't touch my skin
Those gloves don't touch my skin
Those gloves don't touch my skin
Those gloves don't touch my skin

I'd love to do your nails
Before someone gets hurt
Don't be such a flirt
I'd love to do those nails

These nails have served me well
These nails have served me well
These nails have served me well
These nails have served me well

What's that sound
I like that sound
I love that sound

It's the sound of my shoes
It's the sound of my shoes

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Shoes" by Tiga suggest a desire for intimacy and connection between two people, expressed through various actions such as combing hair, holding hands, and doing nails. However, there is also a tension between the desire for connection and the need for personal boundaries, which is reflected in the repeated refrain of "These [shoes/gloves/nails] stay on my [feet/skin/hands]."

The lyrics also suggest a certain degree of playfulness and humor, as illustrated by lines such as "Don't be such a flirt" and the repeated fixation on the sound of the singer's shoes. The song's catchy beat and repetitive structure contribute to this overall sense of lightheartedness, as well as its popularity as a dance hit.

Overall, the lyrics of "Shoes" can be interpreted as a playful and somewhat satirical commentary on the complexities of interpersonal relationships and the need for both intimacy and personal boundaries.

Ära The man states to her to "take off her shoes" which she refuses to do. Later on he says he likes the sound her shoes make which would only occur if she left them on. It's a metaphor for life follow your own path despite what other people tell you because as soon as you do, they'll realise how successful and right you were when you "make it".

I've listened to this song countless times, yet never thought of this. Very philosophical and a cool interpretation.
