In 1978, A&M Records released Tim Curry's debut solo album. Entitled Read My Lips, the album featured an eclectic range of songs (mostly covers) performed in diverse genre. Highlights of the album are a reggae version of the Beatles song "I Will", a rendition of "Wake Nicodemus" with full bagpipe backing, and an original bar-room ballad, "Alan".
The following year, Curry's second and most successful album was released. Titled Fearless, the LP was more rock-oriented than Read My Lips and mostly featured original songs rather than cover versions. The record included Tim Curry's only US charting songs: "I Do the Rock" and "Paradise Garage".
Curry's third and final album, Simplicity, was released in 1981, again by A&M Records. This record did not sell as well as the previous offerings, due in part to a less appealing, more maudlin sound. This record combined both original songs and cover versions, and is commonly held to be the weakest of the three albums.
In 1989, A&M released The Best of Tim Curry on CD and cassette, featuring songs from his albums (including a live version of "Alan") and a previously-unreleased song, a live cover version of "Simple Twist of Fate".
Curry toured America with his band through the late 1970s and the first half of the 1980s.
Curry's first full-time role was as part of the original London cast of the musical Hair in 1968. Here he first met Richard O'Brien, who went on to create his next full-time and perhaps still most famous role, that of Frank N. Furter in the Rocky Horror Show.
Originally Curry rehearsed the character with a German accent and peroxide blonde hair, but the character evolved into the sly, very upper-class English (He says 'dine' instead of down, 'brine' instead of brown etc) drag-wearing mad scientist incarnation that carried over to the movie version and made Curry both a star and a cult figure. He continued to play the character in London, Los Angeles and New York until 1975.
For many years, Curry was reluctant to talk about Rocky Horror, feeling that it was a trend that had gone too far and had distracted attention away from his later roles. However, in recent years he has been much more open about discussing the show and now recognises it as a "rite of passage" for many young people.
Take Me I'm Yours
Tim Curry Lyrics

To greet you with a smile
My camel looks so tired
It's hardly worth my while
To tell you of my travels
Across the golden East
I see your preparations
Invite me first to feast
Because dreams are made of this
Forever there'll be
A heaven in your kiss
Amusing belly dancers
Distract me from my wine
Across Tibetian mountains
Are memories of mine
I've stood some ghostly moments
With natives in the hills
Recorded here on paper
My chills and thrills and spills
It's really been some welcome
You never seem to change
A grape to tempt your leisure
Romantic gestures strange
My eagle flies tomorrow
It's a game I treasure dear
To seek the helpless future
My love at last I'm here
The lyrics to Tim Curry's song "Take Me I'm Yours" depict the journey of a traveler who has come a long way to visit his lover. The first verse reveals that the journey has been arduous, as the traveler has come across the desert on a tired camel. However, despite the exhaustion, the traveler greets his lover with a smile, and speaks of his travels across the golden East. The lover is preparing for their visit, and the traveler asks to be invited first to feast, indicating his eagerness to be with his lover. The chorus expresses the traveler's desire to be with their lover, as dreams are made of this, and forever there will be a heaven in their kiss.
The second verse explores the distractions the traveler encounters while trying to enjoy wine and reminisce about memories of Tibetian mountains. Amusing belly dancers draw his attention away from his drink, and the traveler reflects on ghostly moments spent with natives in the hills, noting them down on paper. The third verse speaks of the romantic gestures and leisure time spent together, with grapes tempting the lover's leisure. The traveler is keen to play a game of seeking the helpless future, and expresses his love for his lover, finally telling them that he has arrived to be with them.
Overall, the song "Take Me I'm Yours" is a beautifully crafted love letter, transporting the listener to the world of the traveler and his lover. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing, desire, and adventure, with the traveler's journey through the desert and mountains serving as a metaphor for the highs and lows of any relationship. The chorus captures the essence of this song, emphasizing that being together is what makes dreams come true.
