I'm Going Home
Tim Curry and Company Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On the day I went away, goodbye
Was all I had to say, now I
I want to come again and stay, oh my my
Smile, and that will mean that I may

'Cause I've seen blue skies, through the tears
In my eyes
And I realize, I'm going home

(I'm going home)

Everywhere it's been the same, feeling
Like I'm outside in the rain, wheeling
Free, to try and find a game, dealing
Cards for sorrow, cards for pain

'Cause I've seen blue skies through the tears
In my eyes
And I realize, I'm going home

I'm going home

I'm going home
I'm going home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tim Curry and the Roxy Cast's song "I'm Going Home" revolve around a sense of longing for home and the feeling of being an outsider in one's current environment. The lyrics begin with the singer stating that on the day they left, they could only say goodbye, but now they desire to come back and stay. The singer urges the listener to smile, because that would imply that they can return. The second verse goes on to describe the feeling of being outside in the rain, free to try and find a game but always dealing cards for sorrow and pain. However, the lyrics are ultimately hopeful, and the singer realizes that they have seen blue skies through the tears in their eyes, and they are going home.

The song has a variety of themes that are conveyed through the lyrics. It is a song of hope, about coming home after a difficult journey or period of time away. It is also about feeling like an outsider, but ultimately finding one's place in the world. The lyrics are ambiguous enough that they are open to interpretation, and listeners can apply them to their own lives and experiences.

Train Girl

Absolutely LOVE Tim Curry. Beautiful voice, fine and wonderful actor also very humble, human, gracious, warm and lovely to his adoring fans and genuinely makes time for them. What an amazing, absolute gentleman. Hoping he will recover fully from his stroke. If you ever read this Tim Curry ( highly unlikely ) I send much love and genuine best wishes from London. England :-) xxxxx

Tim curry is the only one that can play this part. I saw the rocky horror show in 1978 it was playing in a theatre in the kings road and I often wonder if it was him in the cast back then, I was a mere 17 year old.

Okawan Lee

The little breaks in his voice OMG. And I thought that the movie version was my favorite when this existed 😫🤞
