Next To You
Tim Easton Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I want to understand
Let me be next to you
Then we can watch the band
Let me be next to you
Under your ceiling fan
I can hear every song better when I'm next to you
When you think you've been cheated
I know I've laid some bad things down before
Heard the sound of your voice
And you drowned out all the noise I made 'til now
Let me be next to you
I want to understand
Let me be next to you
Then we can watch the band
Let me be next to you
Under your ceiling fan
I can hear every note better when I'm next to you
I want to wake up singing
Every word you said
Do you understand me?
Let me be next to you
I want to understand
Then we can watch the band
Let me be next to you
Under your ceiling fan
I can hear every song better when I'm next to you
Under your ceiling fan
I can hear everything better when I'm next to you
Let me be next to you
Let me be next to you
Please let me be right next to you
The lyrics to Tim Easton's song "Next to You" convey the singer's desire to be in close physical proximity to the person he is singing to. He wants to be "next to" them in order to better understand them, listen to music together, and hear their voice over any other distractions. The repetition of the phrase "let me be next to you" emphasizes the singer's longing to be physically close in order to emotionally connect.
The second verse seems to address the singer's own past mistakes and flaws, acknowledging that the other person may have felt cheated by him before. However, when he hears their voice, it drowns out any other noise or negativity he has made "until now." The singer wants to wake up singing every word the other person said, suggesting that he wants to fully internalize and understand the other person's thoughts and emotions.
Overall, "Next to You" is a romantic and introspective song about the power of physical and emotional closeness in building understanding and intimacy between people.
