Nothing In This World
Tim Hughes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No treasure man could buy
Could take the place of drawing near to You
There's nothing I want more
Than to spend my days with You
Dwelling in Your secret place of praise
And oh how I need I need Iou
You are the one that satistifes
You are the one that satisfies
So place within my heart
A fire that burns for You
That waters cannot quench nor wash away
And let that fire blaze
Through all eternity
Where one day I shall see You face to face
The lyrics of Tim Hughes's song Nothing In This World express a deep longing for the presence of God. The first verse acknowledges that nothing in this world can compare to the experience of drawing near to God. The songwriter acknowledges that no material possessions or wealth could provide the fulfilment or satisfaction that comes with being close to God. The second verse expresses a desire to spend time with God, "dwelling in Your secret place of praise". The songwriter is craving the intimacy, peace, and joy that comes with a close relationship with God.
The chorus of the song is a heartfelt plea to Jesus for his presence and comfort. The songwriter acknowledges that he needs Jesus, and that Jesus is the only one who can truly satisfy the soul. In the bridge of the song, the songwriter asks God to light a fire in his heart that burns for God and cannot be extinguished. The songwriter desires to be consumed by this fire and to have it blaze through all eternity, culminating in seeing God face to face. This final image shows the ultimate longing for believers, to experience the glory of God in his fullness.

PROPILEN14
I like this song. Maybe I dont know songs from Tim Hughes enough, but I think this is the most honest, the greatest song of his entire discography. I really miss songs like that. He's just great artist and I want more hours of listening that kind of music, that, I'm sure even God likes.
