@jordan long I think I can't really understand what it's doing to the inmates. I feel like it's a whole other layer I can't really understand unless I were in that situation. Even with the COVID shutdown I was losing my mind a bit and I didn't even know how any inmate in jail could be in jail that long after that. Let alone SC.

I have already had 15+ mental health issues from severe psychological abuse as a kid. When I hear about Brulottes acts, you KNOW he's only doing those because the alternative IS suicide. That IS HIS best option. I speak from experience.

My room was always the safest place for me growing up and I would make excuses to avoid friends. When I saw the study about is saying that your mind adapts to less stimulation, are you going to no longer handle that amount of stimulation, it really hit home for me. I have come to love the change that I put myself in now that I prefer over abuse.

we can always make efforts to change and grow but at the end of the day the social anxiety is still there the anxiety is still there the PTSD is still there the fear you're going to snap at somebody is still there and be made into a fool because you can hardly control your anger.

Praying for all you guys to find growth healing novelty and peace šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

Solitary confinement can break darn near anyone. I watched a documentary before this one where an inmate was incredibly honest and vulnerable with the film crew and said (paraphrasing a bit here) "I don't know how to fend for myself out there and that's what scares me. In here you're given everything... food, clothing, everything... out there you're given nothing and that scares me. " ... this warden doesn't want to live next door to anyone released but some of the people are scared to be released.

Solitary doesn't help anyone learn how to fend for themselves on the "outside" but it sure would strip some of their humanity and sanity.

And if/when they do get released they battle with depression and anxiety. The need to build a life they may not have the tools to build so they can pay fines AND every day bills and groceries so that they don't go back "inside".

There is no one clear cut answer. If you are a dangerous person you must pay for your crimes... but who helps them from becoming more dangerous? Who teaches them the skills for the tools to live in society?

I don't have the answers. And some people belong in prison. But nobody deserves to be treated like an animal with no hope for a tomorrow šŸ˜•

It has been just about 2+ years since I have dealt with being incarcerated (thank goodness šŸ™ŒšŸ˜‡)...
But even just during my time in county, not even prison... The 2 women's units were on 23 hour lock-downs for MONTHS at a time! šŸ˜³šŸ„“

Unlike actual "solitary confinement" we were at least "lucky" enough to have a "bunkie" as well as being able to have books, other than the Bible ONLY.. .

But yea, even in county they had us on 23 hr lock-downs! Absolutely f-cking crazzzy!
When us (the inmates) would politely ask why...
The CO's would always respond with the same BS answer... Either our "behavior as a unit earned another day of lockdown" (mind you there were TWO units so that was questionable), or the response most commonly used was that the jail was "under staffed".. Meaning they didn't have a Deputy in the unit during either shift available to remain in unit, so they'd keep us locked in our cells, doing their "cell/inmate checks" every 30 minutes or so, or being there for breakfast at 4:00-4:30am, lunch 11:00-11%30am,and finally dinner 4:30-5:00pm to be served...

Once in awhile (depending on day of week/shift) we would get a decent Deputy that would be "understanding" enough to allow us out for "tier time" (time given to be out of cells for inmates to shower, use phones, get hot water, clean cells, use kiosk, etc)...
These very few deputies would give us the "most time allowed per 12 hour shift" .. 1-2 hours ...

According to the "Washoe County Sheriff Office Handbook" (also mentioned on the video watched by ALL inmates during intake process)... states that all inmates (unless behavioral writeups have occurred) are to be given 1 hour every 24 hours outside of cell to shower/use phone...
And of course there would always be the asshole of a CO who would say "I only have to give you ladies ONE hour! Be thankful if given anymore time"... šŸ˜•

Which, yes, I fucking get it, as an INMATE OF THE STATE we lose many if not all of our rights...

But that is no understandable excuse for the reasoning behind keeping so many people locked in a cell for so many hours day.. Day after day, week after another week, for months with no end! It is most definitely not good for ones mind! Like I said, luckily, we had another person in the cell with us... But imagine being locked inside that cell with a female that you couldn't get along with no matter how much effort put in!! šŸ¤ÆšŸ˜”šŸ„ŗ

America needs to decide whether to be using jails/prisons as a means of mass discipline or rehabilitation... Because this walking in between both, one foot in each, is seriously causing more damage than could ever be undone!!
Sadly majority of inmates who are serving time have underlining mental health issues that are going undiagnosed or medicated..

Causing prisons all over the country to be filled beyond their limits, leaving staff overworked, underpaid and left to deal with inmates who are being treated as animals therefor acting out... Leaving both inmates and staff at constant risks of physical altercations occurring, which leaves the inmates at risk of being locked up for more years with more charges being added to sentences ... Then leaving the staff at risk of being seriously harmed or possibly losing their jobs...
Our prison system is just such a sad fucking story!! šŸ˜”

That one inmate is 100% right. How do you expect people to leave this situation and then go act normal in society

Abigail Andino

@Marie J.Richard Iā€™m interested to know how the experience will change you.

Danil

Sounds more like a get out of jail card to me. These are hardened criminals who have done wrong in society and need to face the consequences.

Black Lyfe

Damn

Bearded Lonewolf

In there or not they wouldn't act normal in a society, before going there they were in a regular cell... it's a lame excuse they give themselves.

ā€œYou canā€™t conduct yourself as a human being, if youā€™re being treated like an animal.ā€
That honestly hit me deep in my soul. This isnā€™t punishment or rehabilitation, itā€™s pure unadulterated torture.

I have been treated like an animal from caregivers itā€™s abuse

EliteHacker

@W Axl your missing the point. These ppl are going to be released one day. This is not what u want out in the world. So if u create an animal your releasing an animal. I was in solitary for a test charge. I came out a way worse person than I've ever been. Your logic makes no sense. Some deserve this yes. But most do not

@Marie J.Richard What about the victims that were tortured by these psychos? One victim had his jaw broken. All these guys do is stand in a cell all day. Boo-diddly-hoo.
