Timmy T started out in the 80's in small rap groups in Fresno, but felt that he would rather do dance music. He purchased a Moog synthesizer and a Roland TR-808 drum machine at a pawn shop, and recorded his first single, "Time After Time", in his garage. He delivered copies to a Fresno radio station and asked them to play his single. After the DJ played the song, there were many calls requesting who that was. The DJ recommended to Timmy T to take his record to radio stations in Los Angeles for more exposure. After Los Angeles pop station Power 106 played the record, Timmy got a record deal with Quality Records and released another single, "One More Try", which proved to be much more successful than his first single, climbing its way to the top of the Billboard charts.
Although Freestyle music has been a mainstay of New York and Miami, Timmy T was one of the most successful Freestyle artists to come from California.
He recorded his first album, "Time After Time", featuring the title track (his first single), "One More Try", and "What Will I Do." He followed up with "All For Love."
Timmy T has toured all over the world and performed on various TV shows through the early 90's. Following a financially draining divorce, having to raise his children, and the decline of Freestyle's popularity in general, Timmy fell out of the public eye. Nowadays, Timmy tours with other Freestyle acts such as The Cover Girls, Stevie B, Lisa Lisa, and others on the club circuit. His music still garners heavy rotation on Freestyle playlists.
Timmy T is not related to fellow Freestyle singer Judy Torres.

Why can't we live together
Tell me why, tell me why
Why can't we live together
Everybody wants to live together
Why can't we be together
Just a little peace
No more war, no more war
All we want is some peace in this world
Everybody wants to live together
Why can't we be together
No matter, no matter what color
You are still my brother
I said no matter, no matter what color
You are still my brother
Everybody wants to live together
Why can't we be together
Everybody wants to live
Everybody's got to be together
Everybody wants to live
Everybody's going to be together
Everybody's got to be together
Everybody wants to be together
I said no matter, no matter what color
You're still my brother
I said no matter, no matter what color
You're still my brother
Everybody wants to live together
Why can't we be together
Gotta live together
Together
Timmy Thomas's song "Why Can't We Live Together?" poignantly remarks on the ubiquity of war and the desire for peace. In the opening lyrics, the singer asks why people cannot live together in harmony. This repetitive questioning suggests a deep frustration with the state of the world and its inability to achieve even the basic goal of peaceful coexistence. The following lyrics, "Everybody wants to live together, why can't we be together," further underscore the sentiment of the opening lines. Here, the singer implies that there is a shared desire for unity but something, perhaps societal structures or individual prejudices, is preventing people from fulfilling that desire.
In the next verse, Thomas notes that everyone is searching for peace and an end to war. The repetition of "no more war" underscores the strong desire for tranquility and security. Finally, in the third verse, Thomas addresses race, imploring his listeners to see one another as brothers, regardless of skin color. He again emphasizes that everyone wants to be together and live in peace. The repeated phrase, "Everybody's got to be together," underscores this sentiment.
Overall, "Why Can't We Live Together?" mourns the sorry state of the world while celebrating the universal human desire for harmony and connection.

I agree .Sounds as fantastic as when I first heard it in a "disco " in 1973 . The lyrics have such a positive message too . The record should have been a much bigger hit that's for sure .

I walked into my first ever nightclub at the age of 17 in 1978 and this was playing through a smokey haze, dimly lit by a cheap sound to light system…I had my new girlfriend on my arm and I truly thought I’d died and gone to heaven.
God I was lucky.

Actually written by Noel George Williams, aka King Sporty. The same Jamaican native who with Bob Marley, wrote Buffalo Soldier. Don’t know why he sold the copyright.
