Enshrined in My Memory
Timo Tolkki's Avalon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Is in every step that I take from you
Is in every move that I make
Is it so much easier to lie?
Is it so much easier to fly?
Everything that I used to have
Is forever gone

You and I must rewrite this song
We chose some words that did not belong
Everything that we used to have is enshrined in my memory
I won't give in, won't give up the fight
I sail way from the darkest night
Into the future with what we had enshrined in my memory

Deeper and deeper my path is going
Breathing in the air for lasting lie
I bring all the good things from the past
Find a way of how to make them last
Everything that I once used to have
I will have again

You and I must rewrite this song
We chose some words that did not belong
Everything that we used to have is enshrined in my memory
I won't give in, won't give up the fight
I sail way from the darkest night
Into the future with what we had enshrined in my memory

You and I must rewrite this song
We chose some words that did not belong
Everything that we used to have is enshrined in my memory
I won't give in, won't give up the fight

I sail way from the darkest night
Into the future with what we had enshrined in my memory

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Timo Tolkki's Avalon's song, "Enshrined in My Memory," are about two people who had a relationship in the past that has ended. The singer wonders if it is easier to lie or to fly away from the past instead of facing the truth. However, the memories of their relationship are still present in every step and move the singer makes, but everything they once had is forever gone. Despite this, the singer and the other person must rewrite their song and find a way to make the good things from the past last. In the end, the singer decides not to give up the fight and to sail away from the darkest night into the future with what they had enshrined in their memory.

This song is about nostalgia and the struggle to move on after a break-up or the end of a relationship. The lyrics convey a sense of defeat, but also a determination to hold on to the memories of what was lost. The lyrics also suggest that it is possible to rebuild, overcome the past, and make it last for the future.

I know this is from 2013.. but as a citizen of the USA I have to say this song is better than practically everything American pop has offered for the last 25 years.

@Nickallsopp92

That's because this symphonic metal not pop. American pop music sucks, that's why I never listened to it. Of course, American metal has dipped in quality too, that's why I had to cross the ocean and start listening to European music cause they still have an idea of how to make good music. Wish we could get our shit together and bring back our style of metal, but it just ain't gonna happen. Americans just dont like metal... crying ass shame cause we had the best metal back in the 80's

@maxpower2542

@Nickallsopp92 I know this is Symphonic Metal. My point was that it's better than what the recording industry is giving us here in the states. I work in radio and have no choice but to hear American Pop every now and then. Although, I agree that rock has dipped in the states too; But, yes, I too have made the leap to European rock/metal. I think the one band I've found that has the best 80s rock/metal vibe is Crazy Lixx.. But at the moment I'm Really into Nightwish (Especially with Floor) also, Within Temptation, Evergrey, Vanden Plas, Circus Maximus, and Pagan's Mind. But, yeah, I agree with you.

@Nickallsopp92

@Brian Eastburn all great bands, and if you like 80's rock/metal style, try Battle Beast and Beast in Black. They share the same song writer but are two separate bands with awesome vocalists and Guitarists.

@maxpower2542

@Nickallsopp92 Yeah really like both of them. I've run the gambit in Europe: After Forever, Project Aegis, Lost Horizon, Delain, Crowne, Allen/Olzon, The Dark element, Pyramaze, DGM, Ethernity, Krypteria, Xandria, Kalidia... the list goes on.. listened to them all. lol When I go digging, I dig deep. Love finding new and great music. There's a band in Brazil called Vandroya whose singer is amazing, but can't find too much by them. Just three or four songs. Oh, and Kobra and the Lotus are pretty cool (Canadian). Anyway, I could talk music for days, sorry about rambling on. Thanks for the comments. Peace!

@MetalWidow

This song had such potential to be Eurovision's banger. Love it!

@omardiazs

Por esto es que Timo Tolkki hacia la diferencia en Stratovarius, buena letra, buena melodía, buena interprete, buen solo y muy buen sonido de guitarra.

@DiegoAGimenez81

a mi me encanto la cancion,ademas ellos no se cierran solo en un estilo a la hora de componer,personalmente mas alla de la predileccion de cada uno,a mi si una cancion me gusta simplemente la escucho y disfruto,sea el estilo que sea,un saludo.

@cilopesummers

Mr Tolkki, your music changed my life, back in 2005, when I first met Stratovarius. I just want you to know... Today, I am a musician, thanks to you.
