Unfolding Intro
Timothy Brindle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is The Unfolding
This is The Unfolding
This is The Unfolding
Written with the goal that you become
gripped by the Scriptures you are holding

This is The Unfolding,
written with the goal that you become
gripped by the Scriptures you are holding
Whether preaching or getting in devotions,
the glory of Christ is the picture you're beholding!
May the depths of the riches of His excellent Scriptures
Give you a sense that you're swimming in His Ocean
I know you get that you are chosen
But I pray you'll flip through the
Old Testament Scriptures to Know Him!

"The unfolding of the Old Testament in the New
(Testament), the New unfolds what really is the Old Testament!"

So the purpose of this album
Is to trace Old Testament themes to
see how God's working out their outcome
(how they) find their fulfillment in Christ and His people
The Old Testament's the preview like it's a prequel
And of course Westminster served this
Double album's particular purpose
By teaching me tools like Greek and Hebrew
and Hermeneutics for in-depth Scriptural searches
It enriched my family—strengthened our worship
But as I spent five years digging in
verses, the deeper I dug into the Riches of Christ
The more I realized that I'm just skimming the surface!
Its (Scripture's) organic unity starts like an acorn
That through redemptive history grows as it takes form
By the end it's a full-blooming oak tree
revealing the glory of the Crucified and Raised Lord
The New Testament writers assumed these assumptions:
The OT has Christ-centered truth in abundance
It's important you see this:
They use Old Testament language to paint inspired portraits of Jesus
Because ultimately the Scriptures are One Scroll
That through progressive revelation it unfolds
Thus the Old Testament, and of course the New
Is Christ's story, and since we're in Him, it's our story too!
The New Testament writers would ground what they wrote
In Old Testament allusions with thousands of quotes
And what I've found is so dope:
Each of these themes are like strands that are tightly bound in a rope
So Jesus Christ "ties it all together"
The High Exalted treasure, whom we'll magnify forever

So as we're done beholding His unfolding story
May we see it's all about the Son's Holy Glory!

Overall Meaning

The opening track of Timothy Brindle's album, "The Unfolding," is rooted in the conviction that the entire Bible testifies about Jesus Christ. Brindle urges the listener to approach the Scriptures with the goal of being gripped by them rather than just reading them for information's sake. He reminds us of the depth of riches in the Scriptures and that the Old Testament is a preview of the New. The New Testament is the unfolding or the actualization of what was promised in the Old Testament. Brindle encourages us to dive into the Scriptures, especially the Old Testament, to know Christ more fully. As we immerse ourselves in the Scriptures, we will see more clearly that they are one scroll that progressively reveals Christ.

The purpose of the album is to help the listener see how Old Testament themes find their fulfillment in Christ and His people. Brindle uses this album to explore Old Testament themes and trace how God worked out their outcomes. He quotes from Westminster Confession which taught him Greek, Hebrew, and Hermeneutics for in-depth Scriptural searches. As he explains how his studies enriched his family's worship, he also reflects on how the more he dug into the Riches of Christ, the more he realized how little he knew. The Scriptures grow from a small seed to a full-blooming oak tree, revealing the glory of the Crucified and Raised Lord. Throughout the album, Brindle aims to portray the unity of the Scriptures that all lead to Christ.
