Come to Me
Tina Cousins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm lookinâ at people lookinâ at me
Analyzin' dance floor strategy
Smiling at the tactics of the ones who free
Given heavy thumpinâ, all their energy

There's people in the corner staying out of sight
People stuck to walls are avoiding the light
And it doesn't take a genius to work it out right
Who's goin' home with who tonight?

C-c-come to me
This is my dance floor legacy
Come and show me you're a devotee
And you might get lucky
Concentrate
Take my hand and help me elevate
Everybody to a higher state
And you might get lucky

I'm lookinâ at people prowl around
Watchinâ their reactions through a smokey sound
Hanginâ at the bar waitinâ to be found
Taking foolish chances as the lights go down

If you wannaâ get with me don't waste my time
The middle of the dance floor is where I claim what's mine
So lose your inhibitions in this space filled light
Who's going home with you tonight?

C-c-come to me
This is my dance floor legacy
Come and show me you're a devotee
And you might get lucky
Concentrate
Take my hand and help me elevate
Everybody to a higher state
And you might get lucky

Ooh-ooh-ooh...

C-c-come to me
This is my dance floor legacy
Come and show me you're a devotee
And you might get lucky
Concentrate
Take my hand and help me elevate
Everybody to a higher state
And you might get lucky

C-c-come to me
This is my dance floor legacy
Come and show me you're a devotee
And you might get lucky
Concentrate
Take my hand and help me elevate

Everybody to a higher state
And you might get lucky

Overall Meaning

The song "Come to Me" by Tina Cousins is about a woman who is at a club or dance floor, observing people as they dance or move around. She notices and smiles at those who are dancing passionately, giving all their energy, and finds the tactics of the ones who are free interesting. She also observes those who are staying out of sight or avoiding the light, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out who will end up with whom that night. The chorus of the song encourages people to come and dance with her, show their devotion to the dance floor, and they might get lucky. The woman is looking for someone who will not waste her time and is willing to claim what's hers.

The lyrics suggest that the dance floor is a space where people can let go of their inhibitions and just dance, and the woman is inviting others to join her in reaching a higher state through dance. The song overall is a catchy dance-pop track that encourages people to come together and dance.

+Kyach Distent It's normal. At 80's, when the 80's music was new, a lot of people thought that it sucks. Same happened to 90's music, and now to today's music.

It seems to be so that people fell in love with the music style that they listen in some important stage of their life. Then there's always certain amount of people who are slower at warming up to new things.

But I think due to internet, the diversity is increasing. It's not all the same anymore.

I like the 80's music too, and many songs from this decade too.

Of course one thing that has happened since 80's, is the computer generated music has arrived. Which sometimes results in songs being almost too perfect. It doesn't sound good. You can hear the difference when a human is playing or if the song is very heavily made using computer.

There was not nearly enough promotional push for this song. It had what it took to become a worldwide hit! It still could be a major hit with a well done remix.

Wonderful!

The world is as full of songs that should have got to Number One as it is of shit that should never have made it No.100! Most of the songs deserving of No.1 status were made by excellent 80s artists in the excellent 80s, and who are still continuing to make great music, not that you'd know it the way things are set up these days. Let's be honest. This song doesn't need an overhaul-people weren't going to buy it in 2005 or 2006 because no one cared. It's all about Kylie, Slagdonna, Pariah Carey and your usual slut-pop barbie bimbo crap and that goes for the shit boybands too. People didn't even care about Tina's debut album enough to even send into a Top 40 position, and by 1998 things were very dire indeed on the music front, and it was easily two best releases of the year, as the third, and album by Kim Wilde, went unreleased and bloody remains so. To sum up, the music scene sucks and has done to ever worsening degrees from the early 90s onwards. Tina, sadly, is much too good for it. She can sing too, and doesn't make generic bull, and helped make dance music more vocal and thoughtful than it usually is.
