SUNRISE
Tina Dickow Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Everything is gonna change
Blackbirds are ready to sing
Everything is gonna change
I thought I could write the future
Of course I was wrong
Life’s not like a song
It never stays the same
We were never the early birds
To fly out of bed singing
We were never the very first
To hear the bells ringing
But now we’re standing here watching with our own eyes
The sunrise
The horizon you had in mind
When you and the boys were toasting
In the school yard in ’99
Was a salute to this very morning
As we’re standing here waiting for the light
The sunrise
And everything is gonna change
It’s a new light, a new day
Everything is gonna change
There’s a promise up in the air
Through curtains in every window
As faces everywhere
Begin to light up yellow
And we’re standing here watching with our own eyes
The sunrise
And everything is gonna change
It’s a new light, a new day
Everything is gonna change
Everything is gonna change
The song "Sunrise" by Tina Dickow talks about the inevitability of change and how it can affect one's perspective on life. The lyrics describe a pink sky and the presence of blackbirds, indicating the beginning of a new day. The singer reflects on how she thought she could predict and control the future, but life is not like a song - it is constantly changing. The chorus repeats the phrase, "everything is gonna change," emphasizing the theme of transformation.
The second verse paints a nostalgic picture of the singer and her friends toasting a sunrise they could only imagine. The present moment, however, is different. The singer and her companions are experiencing the sunrise for real, and it is a reminder that life is full of surprises. The final verse draws the listener's attention to the people waking up around them, and how their faces are "beginning to light up yellow," indicating hope for the new day.
Overall, the song's message is one of acceptance and hope - even though change can be scary and uncertain, it is an essential part of life. The sunrise serves as a symbol of a new beginning, a fresh start, and infinite possibilities.
