Don't know when to stop
Said more than enough
I've touched you where it hurts
And I know I'm not the first
But please don't make it worse
Take it out on someone else
Say my name anyway you please
Use me
Look me in the eye
I'd love to see you smile
And I know how hard you try
Don't be so hard on yourself
Take it out on someone else
Say my name anyway you please
In the morning
You'll see a different side
In the morning
A softer light
In the morning
It will all look right
And you won't have to hide
Don't be so hard on yourself
Take it out on someone else
Say my name anyway you please
Don't be so hard on yourself
Take it out on someone else
Say my name anyway you please
Use me
The song "Use Me" by Tina Dickow is a plea to a struggling lover to let go of their self-blame and use the singer instead as a way to ease their pain. In the first verse, the singer acknowledges that the lover has messed up, but urges them not to dwell on it and make it worse. The second verse affirms the singer's desire to see the lover's smile and encourages them to take out their frustrations on someone else instead of being too hard on themselves. The repetition of the lines "Say my name anyway you please" and "Use me" reinforces the singer's willingness to be a vessel for the lover's pain.
The chorus of "Don't be so hard on yourself / Take it out on someone else" is both empathetic and practical in its advice. The singer understands that the lover is struggling and hurting, but also knows that they need to find some way to release those feelings in a healthy way. The repeated use of the phrase "in the morning" suggests that the singer sees a brighter future for the lover, and that they will be able to move past their current struggles. All in all, "Use Me" is a tender and compassionate song about offering oneself up as a support system for someone in need.
