We fail to breathe and swallow the light
We mark the spot and we draw the lines.
We carried on and followed the signs
We drift away, and we loose the sight,
we lock the doors, and borrow
There was in all of a sudden
some five years later still smoke in the air
And I guess not all of the dust
has fallen to the ground
We jumped across the sky
we fail to breathe and swallow light
We mark the spot in lines
and follow the signs
We jumped across the sky
we fail to breathe and swallow light
We're drifting out of sight
And borrow
There was in all of a sudden,
some five years later still smoke in the air
And I guess not all of the dust
has fallen to the ground
We jumped across the sky
we fail to breathe and swallow light
We're drifting out of sight
And borrow
The song Waltz by Tina Dickow has lyrics that are open to interpretation but the general theme appears to be about journeys, the experiences that come with them, and the memories that remain. The opening lyrics, "We jumped across and we cross the sky, we fail to breathe and swallow the light" could symbolize an exhilarating feeling of freedom or possibility, as if the sky is the limit. However, it is also possible to see them as representing the darkness that sometimes comes with taking risks.
The lines "We mark the spot and we draw the lines, we carried on and followed the signs" suggest the importance of direction when embarking on journeys. They also imply that humans are experts in creating mental maps of our lives, and marking the milestones that we encounter. The lyrics "We drift away and we lose the sight, we lock the doors and borrow" evokes memories of loss or sadness. They could describe a situation where someone might be compelled to seclude themselves, close out the world, and seek comfort within themselves.
The repeated line "there was in all of a sudden, some five years later still smoke in the air and I guess not all of the dust has fallen to the ground" is possibly about loss or grief. Smoke and dust are visible signs of destruction or chaos that occur after a significant change has happened. The lyrics suggest that despite the passage of time and visible healing, some traces of pain remain.
