Their debut album - All Eternity - was released in Finland by the end of that year and the band then signed contracts with Nuclear Blast (for Europe) and Pony Canyon (for Japan). In 2000, the band toured Europe together with Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced and In Flames. Epilogue was released in 2001 and was followed by a tour with Lacrimosa.
The album Jaded was released in 2003 and in August of that year, vocalist Jarno Perätalo left the band. He assembled a new band named Tiaga, integrated by former members of To/Die/For. However, in 2004, Jarno Perätalo and the band Tiaga took the name To/Die/For for themselves, releasing the album IV in 2005.
Frail Without You
To/Die/For Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It slowly turns into
Another form of despair
Another form of pain
I gave you my life
You gave me yours
We thought it would last forewer
For each other we took our lives
Where can I find my love
I am frail without you
For a moment we shared one heart
In death we would never be alone
But somehow we did part
In loving memory that is what it said
Nicely carved in stone
Somehow alive
Somehow still alone
Somehow alive even in death
Somehow still alone
The lyrics of the song Frail Without You by To/Die/For is a powerful representation of the aftermath of grief that comes with the loss of a loved one. The opening lines "Grief never dies; It slowly turns into; Another form of despair; Another form of pain" sets the tone of the song. The emotions of pain and despair are beautifully portrayed in the lyrics. The song speaks about a couple who shared everything in life and thought their love would last forever. However, death comes knocking and tears them apart. The singer expresses the idea that with each other's love they found solace and support, but after losing their partner, they are left to face life alone and incomplete.
The lines "For each other, we took our lives; Where can I find my love; I am frail without you" beautifully portray the singer's yearning for their lost partner. The lyricist brings to light the idea that death may part us physically, but our souls remain entangled – united in life and beyond. The lines, "In loving memory that is what it said; Nicely carved in stone; Somehow alive; Somehow still alone" talk about the everlasting memories of the deceased that keep them alive in our memories even after they're gone. The song expresses how we may move on in life, but we never truly forget our beloved.
