Their debut album - All Eternity - was released in Finland by the end of that year and the band then signed contracts with Nuclear Blast (for Europe) and Pony Canyon (for Japan). In 2000, the band toured Europe together with Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced and In Flames. Epilogue was released in 2001 and was followed by a tour with Lacrimosa.
The album Jaded was released in 2003 and in August of that year, vocalist Jarno Perätalo left the band. He assembled a new band named Tiaga, integrated by former members of To/Die/For. However, in 2004, Jarno Perätalo and the band Tiaga took the name To/Die/For for themselves, releasing the album IV in 2005.
The Unknown

Left me alone
In the dark
In the cold
And wind blows again
It comes from far away
So far away
Is the peace of my soul
Here it comes again
This racking feeling I don't belong here
Mother earth beautiful world
Can not give me anything
I have heard so many lies
And I have seen those empty smiles
Knowing that somewhere else
I could see the smile that means something
My mother earth beautiful world
Is drawn into faceness
Sorrow of the unknown
Follows me everywhere
In my heart I know
I don't belong here
The lyrics of To/Die/For's song "The Unknown" express feelings of isolation, loneliness, and a longing for something more meaningful in life. The first stanza describes a sense of abandonment and exposure to the cold and winds, which symbolize desolation and emptiness. The line "Is the peace of my soul" suggests that the singer is searching for inner calm and a sense of belonging that is currently missing.
In the second stanza, the singer struggles with an existential crisis, feeling disconnected from the world around them. They are unable to feel satisfied with what life has to offer, despite the beauty of nature. The line "Knowing that somewhere else I could see the smile that means something" underscores the singer's dissatisfaction with life and desire for something more fulfilling.
The final stanza references the "sorrow of the unknown," which haunts the singer wherever they go. This speaks to a deeper sense of uncertainty and discomfort with one's own existence. The line "In my heart I know I don't belong here" reflects the singer's search for a place or purpose in life.
Overall, "The Unknown" is a poignant and introspective song that explores themes of loneliness, longing, and existential crisis.
