*From classic Motown hits from the 60's and 70's
*To power rock ballads from the 70's and 80's
*To the post-modern punk apocalyptic thrash of modern radio
To the Nines exemplifies professionalism, versatility, and the unbridled enthusiasm that differentiates any of the "great party" bands on the circuit. We take requests. We let you get up on stage and sing with us. Ultimately, if your party is at 10, we're at 11.
With To the Nines you get the total package -- complex harmonies and melodies over guitar-driven pop with a live show that leaves many wondering how anyone can jump around like that for 4 hours. This band understands the common thread bound through all of the great music over the past 40 years. You may start out hearing the Jackson 5, then watch the band weave a creative tapestry of 13 or 14 covers that ends with Rage against the Machine, Smokey Robinson or the Counting Crows.
To The Nines' original music has been featured on compilations with Dillon Fence (Hobex), Sex Police, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Capsize 7, Life in General, Dexter Romweber, Athenaeum and June. We've played with Ben Folds, Hootie and the Blowfish, Dillon Fence, Sex Police, Bus Stop, Athenaeum, among many others.
To the Nines recently starred in an original movie "Immortal", available on DVD (under the moniker Grave Danger), where they were showcased as not only the starring band but the five main actors in this nationally distributed movie. They are on the cusp of breaking through, and their shows demonstrate just how live music "should be, but rarely is."
To the Nines pushes boundaries, and represents one of the best examples of live music on the East coast.
Teeth
To the Nines Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She gets inside
She's better than anything you've tried
It's her kiss
The black seal
It runs deeper than you can dare to dream it could be
With teeth
With teeth
With teeth
Wave goodbye
To what you were
The rules have changed
The lines begin to blur
She makes you hard
She comes on strong
You've finally found
The place where you belong
With teeth
With teeth
With teeth
With teeth
I cannot go through this again
The verses in To the Nines's "Teeth" describe the passionate and consuming experience of falling for someone who exudes a certain power and magnetism. The first verse paints a picture of this person as someone who stands out and surpasses anything the singer has previously encountered. The reference to the "black seal" and the depth of their connection suggests a kind of dangerous, all-consuming love. The repetition of "with teeth" throughout the song underscores the intense feeling of desire and bite that characterizes this love. The singer is compelled by this person's forcefulness, their ability to draw him in and make him feel like he belongs in their orbit. The chorus seems to be a call to action or a rallying cry, urging the singer to embrace this new way of being and give himself over to the experience completely.
In the second verse, the lyrics take on a slightly darker tone. The idea of waving goodbye to who you were and the rules changing suggest that this love is not without its risks or consequences. This person makes the singer "hard" and comes on "strong," which could be interpreted as a kind of emotional or physical manipulation. Nonetheless, the singer seems to willingly submit to this, caught up in the spell of this intense love. The song ends on a note of hesitation, with the singer expressing fear at the prospect of going through this kind of transformative love again.
