Suburban Romance
To the Rats and Wolves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ladies and Gentlemen the Wolves are back!
Are you ready to dance, ready to drink?
So jump the f**k up!

Can you feel it?
We are the street rats and we are speaking in tongues
It's the coal in our blood and the smoke in our lungs
Under the skyline - somewhere between concrete
And our footsteps of our drunken feet

We watch the skyline
Wasting all our time
Waiting for our chance to shine
We watch the skyline
Waiting for our chance to shine

We are the wolves of the night
We won't enter the light
We will destroy ourselves until the last bite

We won't enter the light
gloomy skyscrapers by day
neon street lights at night
and i hate you to death
yet youre the love of my life
we are luring through the streets
our dirt lying on concrete
We watch the skyline
Wasting all our time
Waiting for our chance to shine
We watch the skyline
Waiting for our chance to shine

We are the wolves of the night
We won't enter the light
We will destroy ourselves until the last bite

This is not a bitter lovesong
This is a sweet serenade

To this concrete empire
The city we love to hate

Overall Meaning

The song Suburban Romance by To the Rats and Wolves is a powerful and energetic track that speaks to those who feel disenfranchised and disconnected from their surroundings. The opening lines signify the reintroduction of the wolves, calling out to those ready to dance and participate in the night. The wolves represent those who are cast out and diminished by societal norms and expectations, but rise up to celebrate themselves and their unique culture.

The lyrics speak of a group of people who feel like street rats, speaking in tongues that others can't understand. They are full of coal in their blood and smoke in their lungs, living in the concrete jungle with alcohol fueling their exuberance. The reference to the skyline, both in the verses and choruses, represents the constant presence and reminder of the city around them. They are wasted waiting for their chance to shine, waiting for a time when they can break free from their surroundings and be recognized for who they are.

The wolves of the night refuse to enter the light, rejecting the notion of assimilating into a society that doesn't understand them. They are not afraid to destroy themselves until the last bite, living a reckless and wild existence in the face of the sterile and unfeeling world around them. Even though they are filled with hatred for their environment, they still acknowledge their love for it in their own unique way. It's not a bitter lovesong, but a sweet serenade to the city they love to hate.

Its Sad that most of the Comments here is so negative and or hate... its true that they are not the heaviest and this song in particular is mor melodic than others. but still I thought that the Metal community would me more open minded and would give more support to new commers.
You don´t have to like the music they make but this negativity is unnessecary.

@MineThemed

+Crack3DLP Oh, and no one has any rights to speak out their opinion?

@kolliasmalmsteenown

+Crack3DLP Fuck off will you? There are dozens of bands like this and these guys have nothing on them. People have the right to express their opinions. When it's bad it's just bad, you are not going to go on lying about it are you? If we were to follow your dumb SJW attitude nothing could even dare be judged.

@spellweavergeneziso

Yeah I find lack of tolerancy when talking about metal genres and new bands. I dont get it why people must hate new comers... no logic in that

@Crack3DLP

Hinotama Fyreheart I didn´t say that you musn´t tell your opinion, but a single shit is not an opinion  thats just insulting. and thats my opinion. you don´t have to share it.

@MineThemed

+Crack3DLP I unterstand, but everyone can say what he thinks on his own way. I think this is shit. Then you have the option to live with that or not

@BlattGaming

This is the reason people hate metalheads. The negativity in the comments is just hilarious. Just because it isn't your style of music doesn't mean its bad. And before you say "this sounds the same as every generic metalcore band," I'm pretty sure you can say the same about any Metal band in existence. That's why genres are made, but then again, I'm lecturing to the most narrow-minded, bigoted people on the planet.

@Kesto666

Facts!!! Metalheads should stick more together and don't hate another subgenres. They dont have to like it, but they also don't need to hate it

@deductivereasoning4257

The main reason is the long hair - and other genres started the hate 1st...
