Voices
To the Wolves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell me I'm Yours
Tell me I'm not alone
Falling apart in this silence alone
Tell me I'm Yours
Tell me I'm not alone
I see the night slipping over
It crawls along coming closer
I feel the lies pull me under
I hear Your voice like it's thunder

You're falling in love with the silence
It's telling you all that you want to hear
You're falling in love with the violence
It's telling you all that you want to hear

I crept along in the shadows
I drowned the guilt in the shallows
It's buried now, covered in doubt
I hear Your voice
Tell me I'm not alone

You're falling in love with the silence
It's telling you all that you want to hear
You're falling in love with the violence
It's telling you all that you want to hear

I'm all alone
Tell me I'm not alone
Tell me I'm Yours
Tell me I'm not alone
Tell me that I'm not alone in this world
Tell me I'm not
I drowned out Your voice
And hardened my heart to stone

I filled all my voids
But opened my wounds
The pain digs in deeper and deeper
I filled all the voids
But opened my wounds
The pain digs in deeper and deeper

A voice cut its way through the silence
Telling me of love that is sincere
You quiet my heart from the violence
You're falling in love with the silence
It's telling you all that you want to hear
You're falling in love with the violence
It's telling you all that you want to hear
Forgiveness despite my defiance
Telling me of love that is sincere

Forgiveness despite my defiance
Telling me of love that is sincere

Overall Meaning

The song "Voices" by To the Wolves explores the theme of loneliness and the struggle to feel loved and accepted. In the first verse, the singer pleads for reassurance that they belong to someone and that they aren't alone in their pain. The night is described as creeping closer, suggesting a sense of impending doom or darkness. The lies that pull the singer under could represent negative thoughts or self-doubt. However, the powerful and thundering voice of the one they seek reassurance from is heard and provides some light in the darkness.

The next verse delves deeper into the singer's troubles. They admit to hiding in the shadows and burying their guilt in the shallows. The guilt is likely connected to whatever is causing the singer's loneliness, creating a sense of shame. The singer longs to not feel alone and to hear the voice of the one who can comfort them. Towards the end of the song, the singer admits to having shut out that voice and hardened their heart. They seek forgiveness despite their defiance and the pain that digs deeper within them.

Overall, the song is a poignant look at the struggles of loneliness and the search for love and acceptance. The lyrics portray the emotions of someone who feels lost and alone, turning to the voice of a higher power for reassurance and comfort.

My conviction is in the idea that claims should not be accepted without evidence. That evidence renders them "knowledge" not "beliefs." That is the only "community" I'm talking about. Science is not limited to an elite group.....it is a way of thinking as even a curious child is a scientist. One only needs to look at politics today and see how harmful it is to accept beliefs on "cult of personality." Science makes no appeals to authority....only evidence.

I didn't say that your gnome idea was any less valid than what theists believe....it certainly isn't. That's a part of my point. Just look at 9-11....all over a prophet who flew off on a winged horse!

Theists don't have to be violent to harm others. Matter of fact, many are experts at self-delusion where they consider the harm they do to others justified by their god and in the name of love and religious freedom. Such as blindly adopting a behavior as a "sin" without really considering whether it is demonstrably harmful or immortal. A perfect example is persecuting a gay child to the point of misery and then turning around and claiming that being gay makes one miserable.....they lie to themselves all the time. Then there is the way they deliberately lie to undermine science in order to uphold their beliefs (which harms education)....it goes on and on.

Anyway, have a good day!

"Truth" is a vague term.....I prefer "knowledge" or "fact." If you don't mind.

Why do you think it's insightful to point out what is likely the biggest strength in science....the ability to admit or acknowledge when we don't know something? I don't think there is a more prevalent or motivating force in all of science. It is religion that settles for ignorance in the form of a "God did it, so don't think about it" attitude.

You use scientific ignorance to put it on par with cretationism.....which is ludicrous quite frankly. Not only that but you try to demote scientific knowledge to mere "assumptions." As for the latter you seriously need to learn some science and understand why a fact is a fact and why a theory is a theory. And while your at it, learn the controls within the scientific method that are in place to insure accuracy, including peer review. Which isn't simply "review" but scientists attempting vigorously to disprove each other.

As far as your "invisible gnome example"......anything is possible is science....it has an open mind. The difference is that science doesn't accept claims of invisible gnomes without support. And the proponents of science (unlike religion) certainly won't fly themselves into a building for that belief.

I think that the human race is perfectly capable of distinguishing between primitive stories and societal codes, on the one hand, and evidence based (objective) reality on the other. You try to portray them on equal footing. They are certainly not.

I live in Victoria BC.
The only wolf I have seen was at a dog refuge in the interior of BC near Merritt. Someone raised it but not well, he was rescued, and was traumatized poor guy, but just beautiful... so big...🐺
We have occasional cougars that come into town, they are dangerous as they circle their prey and get you from behind.
I have never seen one but my Great Pyrenees has reacted to things unseen on camping trips...😶😬
Be safe!
