The band formed in 1989. Toadies officially disbanded in 2001, although they had farewell concerts in 2002. The band reformed for a reunion show on March 11, 2006, headlining the Greenville Ave St. Patrick's Day parade concert.
Toadies toured extensively throughout the 1990s, opening for such artists as Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Zombie, Bush, and The Butthole Surfers. They also headlined and co-headlined tours with acts such as Brutal Juice, Baboon, Supersuckers, and The Reverend Horton Heat.
The primary reason for the breakup of the band was that Lisa Umbarger simply did not want to be a part of it anymore, and bandleader Todd Lewis felt that the band could not continue without her.
Since disbanding, members of the band have gone on to other projects. Todd Lewis is now in The Burden Brothers and Mark Reznicek is now in Eleven Hundred Springs.
Toadies reunited for 4 shows in Texas in March 2007. They played one show in Dallas, one in Houston, and two shows in Austin at Stubb's BBQ. All of the shows sold out shortly after they went onsale.
Toadies reunited for good in 2008, releasing their new album, "No Deliverance" on August 15th 2008.
In June 2010 it was announced that Feeler, the follow-up album to Rubberneck that was shelved by Interscope, would finally be seeing a release. Todd Lewis was quoted as saying: "Since there are unfinished versions floating around on the Internet, it is important to us that people hear it as we meant it to be." The album was released on July 20, 2010

And I'll see it with sober eyes
But all I really want tonight is you
You know, love is a magic trick
Fools the eyes and drives the hips
But it's crazy, the shit it gets you through
Cause I'm an animal looking for a home
So tell me lover, what don't you want to do
And I'll lay my heart wide open
So lover don't you let me down
Tonight we're just two animals
The moon is high, but it's bright as day
I can't think of a thing to say
And time is slipping by, sliding away
You know love is a sneaky bitch
Make you happy or make you sick
Make you say things you never thought you'd say
We're all animals looking for a home
Nobody wants to spend the night alone
And I don't want to see the cold hard light of day
So I'll lay my heart wide open
So lover don't you let me down
Tonight we're just two animals
Toadies's song Animals is a song about two people wanting each other for the night. The song starts by saying that tomorrow the sun will rise and the singer will see it with sober eyes, suggesting that he knows what he's doing right now is crazy or wrong. However, all he really wants tonight is the person he's with. The singer then speaks about how love is a magic trick that fools the eyes and drives the hips, and the crazy things it gets you through. He then describes himself as an animal looking for a home, and that he doesn't want to spend the night alone. The singer asks the other person what they don't want to do, and he'll lay his heart wide open for them. The song then repeats the chorus about two animals looking for a home.
In the second verse, the singer speaks about the moon being high but bright as day, and he can't think of anything to say. He then says that time is slipping by and love is a sneaky bitch that can make you happy or make you sick, and make you say things you never thought you would. The singer repeats the chorus again about two animals looking for a home and not wanting to spend the night alone. He then ends the song by saying that he doesn't want to see the cold hard light of day, and he'll lay his heart wide open for the other person and asks them not to let him down.
Overall, the song Animals speaks about the primal desire for human connection, and how we are all just animals looking for a home. The song conveys the vulnerability and desperation that can come with wanting someone for the night, and how love can be a powerful force that drives us to do crazy things.
