The band formed in 1989. Toadies officially disbanded in 2001, although they had farewell concerts in 2002. The band reformed for a reunion show on March 11, 2006, headlining the Greenville Ave St. Patrick's Day parade concert.
Toadies toured extensively throughout the 1990s, opening for such artists as Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Zombie, Bush, and The Butthole Surfers. They also headlined and co-headlined tours with acts such as Brutal Juice, Baboon, Supersuckers, and The Reverend Horton Heat.
The primary reason for the breakup of the band was that Lisa Umbarger simply did not want to be a part of it anymore, and bandleader Todd Lewis felt that the band could not continue without her.
Since disbanding, members of the band have gone on to other projects. Todd Lewis is now in The Burden Brothers and Mark Reznicek is now in Eleven Hundred Springs.
Toadies reunited for 4 shows in Texas in March 2007. They played one show in Dallas, one in Houston, and two shows in Austin at Stubb's BBQ. All of the shows sold out shortly after they went onsale.
Toadies reunited for good in 2008, releasing their new album, "No Deliverance" on August 15th 2008.
In June 2010 it was announced that Feeler, the follow-up album to Rubberneck that was shelved by Interscope, would finally be seeing a release. Todd Lewis was quoted as saying: "Since there are unfinished versions floating around on the Internet, it is important to us that people hear it as we meant it to be." The album was released on July 20, 2010
I Come From The Water
Toadies Lyrics

I crawled upon the shore
I left my brothers there
I got what I came for
I sucked that hot air in
And rolled upon the sand
Emerged beneath the sun
I come from the water
I come from the water
That weren't no easy thing
It's more than nature
It's like my destiny
I stood upon these legs
And held my head up high
Emerged beneath the sun
To start a new life
I Come From the water
Life in the desert
Just to be together
The sand forever
The same forever
It moves beneath me
It pulls my body
My pulse beats hotter
So far from the water
I love to see the sun
In spite of all it's done
I pray for shade and rain
I pray to live again
I come from the water
The song I Come From the Water by the Toadies tells the story of a creature that crawled out of the water and onto the shore. The creature left his brothers behind and emerged beneath the sun to start a new life as a man. The lyrics describe the creature’s difficult journey of adapting to life on land, and the challenges he faced in the desert.
The song can be interpreted as a metaphor for the struggle of leaving one’s past behind and starting anew. The water represents the singer’s former life and the shore represents the beginning of a new chapter. The singer describes the difficulty in adjusting to this new life, but also the determination to succeed and make a better life for himself. The line “It’s more than nature, it’s like my destiny” emphasizes the idea that the singer was meant to leave the water and start a new life, even if it is difficult.
The lyrics in the second verse point to the struggle of survival in the new world. The sand forever moving beneath the singer’s feet highlights the idea of constant change and the importance of adaptation. The singer prays for shade and rain as a way to survive and thrive in this new world. The final line “I come from the water” emphasizes the singer’s past and the impact it has on his life now.
