The band formed in 1989. Toadies officially disbanded in 2001, although they had farewell concerts in 2002. The band reformed for a reunion show on March 11, 2006, headlining the Greenville Ave St. Patrick's Day parade concert.
Toadies toured extensively throughout the 1990s, opening for such artists as Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Zombie, Bush, and The Butthole Surfers. They also headlined and co-headlined tours with acts such as Brutal Juice, Baboon, Supersuckers, and The Reverend Horton Heat.
The primary reason for the breakup of the band was that Lisa Umbarger simply did not want to be a part of it anymore, and bandleader Todd Lewis felt that the band could not continue without her.
Since disbanding, members of the band have gone on to other projects. Todd Lewis is now in The Burden Brothers and Mark Reznicek is now in Eleven Hundred Springs.
Toadies reunited for 4 shows in Texas in March 2007. They played one show in Dallas, one in Houston, and two shows in Austin at Stubb's BBQ. All of the shows sold out shortly after they went onsale.
Toadies reunited for good in 2008, releasing their new album, "No Deliverance" on August 15th 2008.
In June 2010 it was announced that Feeler, the follow-up album to Rubberneck that was shelved by Interscope, would finally be seeing a release. Todd Lewis was quoted as saying: "Since there are unfinished versions floating around on the Internet, it is important to us that people hear it as we meant it to be." The album was released on July 20, 2010
No Deliverance

Chased by demons, chasing ghosts
And when I wound up facing the sea
Heard the waves crashing, laughing at me
I waded into that icy black
I saw there was no, no coming back
No deliverance
Ducked my head under, started to drift
I saw great wonders shunned from above
I saw blind monsters twisted in love
No deliverance
And when I saw her, bathed in light
A host of angels knelt at her side
She said, "You have forsaken all you believe
Crossed earth and oceans to be with me
I'll be your lover, I'll be your wrack
And now you're never coming back."
No deliverance
The lyrics of Toadies' song "No Deliverance" refer to a person who has chased their love from one coast to another, fighting against their inner demons along the way. As they reach the edge of the sea, they find themselves in a situation of desperation and despair because they know there's no use in running from their problems. As they immerse themselves in the icy blackness of the water, they come to terms with the fact that there is no way out. They have finally realized that the only way to escape their inner turmoil is to accept it and surrender to the tide.
The singer then narrates how he saw things he couldn't see from the surface when he went under the water. The horrors and wonders he saw under the sea reflected the twisted emotions and thoughts he had suppressed for so long. The song takes one final turn when he is met with a woman bathed in light and angels at her side. She offers him the comfort of her love if he is willing to forsake everything he believed in and commit to her.
"No Deliverance" is a melancholic love song that speaks to the pain of struggling with oneself and the belief systems that hold them back. The personification of the sea as a metaphor for confronting one's depths and the inevitable realization that nothing can be changed once you have crossed certain lines is what makes the lyrics so thought-provoking.
