Motorlicker
Tobacco Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't shake me
You picked the perfect day
To break me
Hide me
Don't find me
You've got an empty face
That's trying
to blind me
The lyrics of TOBACCO's song Motorlicker are open to interpretation, but to me, they seem to be about feeling vulnerable and exposed to someone who has the power to break us. The first line, "Shake me, don't shake me," suggests the conflicting emotions of wanting to feel safe and stable, while also being willing to take risks and let go. The following line, "You picked the perfect day to break me," sounds resigned to a feeling of defeat, as if the singer knows that they're about to be hurt.
As the lyrics continue, the singer seems to plead for shelter and safety: "Hide me, don't find me." It's clear that they're afraid of being seen or exposed. The final line, "You've got an empty face that's trying to blind me," suggests a sense of betrayal, as if the person who is supposed to be supportive is actually trying to hurt or deceive the singer. Overall, the lyrics capture a sense of fear and vulnerability in the face of emotional danger.

This song, this god damn song. Hell, the four song span from Lick the Witch to Unholy Demonic Rhythms is probably the best consecutive span of music Ive listened to... ever. Those four tracks cover any and all bases it seems for tobacco's stylized use of distortion, hazy synths, addictive beats and overall badassery. Motorlicker segueing into Unholy Demonic Rhytms is an audio delight, truly it should be experienced by any and all denizens of earth.

Tobacco as well as BMSR provides me with an untapped deep part of my mind that I didn't even know existed. While tobacco's sound is more devilish, bmsr provides a warm cozy feeling, they really both bring MAGIC to the table. I have yet to do mushrooms, but from what I understand BMSR would be good for that.
