Signed to DreamWorks Records Nashville in 1998, Keith released his breakthrough single "How Do You Like Me Now?!" in late 1999. This song, the title track to his 1999 album of the same name, was the #1 country song of 2000, and one of several chart-toppers during his tenure on DreamWorks Nashville. His next three albums, Pull My Chain, Unleashed, and Shock'n Y'all, produced three more #1's each, and all of the albums were certified 4× Platinum. A second Greatest Hits package followed in 2004, and after that, he released Honkytonk University.
When DreamWorks closed in 2005, Keith founded the label Show Dog Nashville, which merged with Universal South Records to become Show Dog-Universal Music in December 2009. He has released ten studio albums through Show Dog/Show Dog-Universal: 2006's White Trash with Money, 2007's Big Dog Daddy, 2008's That Don't Make Me a Bad Guy, 2009's American Ride, 2010's Bullets in the Gun, 2011's Clancy's Tavern, 2012's Hope on the Rocks, 2013's Drinks After Work, 2015's 35 MPH Town, 2017's The Bus Songs, and 2021's Peso in My Pocket, as well as the compilation 35 Biggest Hits in 2008. Keith also made his acting debut in 2006, starring in the film Broken Bridges, and co-starred with comedian Rodney Carrington in the 2008 film Beer for My Horses, inspired by his song of the same name. On February 5th, 2024, Toby passed away from a 3 year battle with Stomach Cancer.
Valentine

It said I'm thinking of you
I put some flowers on the table
But I know you won't be home
These are some of the little things
That I do 'cause I still love you
And today might be the hardest day
Chorus:
Valentine, girl do you still think about me
I still wake up at night callin' out your name
And the roses are there
Paper hearts are everywhere
But the fourteenth of February
Will never be the same
Where did we go wrong Val
I thought we had it made
Was it just wishful thinkin'
Is it supposed to be this way
Oh but I still feel the magic
That comes this time of year
When everybodt's got a sweetheart
And I'm wishin' that you were here
In Toby Keith's song Valentine, he reminisces about his past relationship with a woman and reveals how he's still longing for her. The song begins with him explaining how he purchased a card at the drugstore with the words "I'm thinking of you" written on it and how he put flowers on the table, although he knows she won't be home. He admits that he still loves her, which is why he does these little things. He says that the fourteenth of February, Valentine's Day, will never be the same.
In the chorus, Toby Keith asks his former partner if she still thinks about him. He says that he still wakes up at night calling out her name, and the roses and paper hearts are everywhere, but it's not the same without her. In the last verse, he questions where they went wrong, and he wishes that they were still together. He ends the song by expressing how he still feels the romance in the air during Valentine's Day, and how he wishes she was with him.
Overall, the song is about a man who is still in love with his ex-girlfriend and is reminiscing about their past relationship. He talks about the little things that remind him of her, and how he wishes she was still a part of his life. The song is packed with emotion and can make the listener feel empathetic towards Toby Keith's character.
