Get Down
Todd Terry All Stars (Featuring Kenny Dope DJ Sneak Terry Hunter & Tara McDonald) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I ask myself why
I'm walking in rhythm to a new beat
Must be the look in your eye
Get down
You are my music fill me up
Here I am
Ooh ooh yeah yeah
This is unusual
It's not like me
To be acting this way
I'm talking in riddles and poetry
No one understands what I say
Get down
You are my music fill me up
Here I am
Keep it spinning till we drop
I don't know why I gotta boogie
Could it be your standing by me
Everything I see so shiny now
Get down
You are my music fill me up
Here I am
Keep it spinning till we drop
Ooh ooh yeah yeah
The Todd Terry Allstars’s song “Get Down” opens up with an upbeat tune and lyrics that express a sense of euphoria and happiness. The lead singer describes how she feels like she is skipping along the street in rhythm to some new beat, and when she questions her behavior, she realizes that it is because of the look she is getting from someone else. The feeling of joy and inspiration that she is experiencing is mimicked in the exceptional upbeat tempo of the song.
The chorus of the song, which repeats several times, talks about how the person she's looking at helps her to get down, and their presence fills her up like music. All of her doubts and fears disappear as she immerses herself in a moment of music, dancing, and love. They keep spinning until they both drop, emphasizing the idea of continuous movement and how nothing can stand still when you are wholly immersed in your chosen passion.
The lyrics highlight the magic and power that music holds that whenever someone listens to a good tune, they forget about their problems, and everything around them feels perfect. In conclusion, the song’s lyrics encapsulate the joy of being alive, the beauty in the simple things in life, the feeling of finding that special someone, and blissfully immersing ourselves in fantastic rhythms.

For me, the violin strings make this divine. The vocals are tight of course but the horns and baseline compliment each other so well. I just want to get in the middle of the dance floor and jump in place!
