I've never been to Sichuan but I've had Sichuan hotpots before and it really doesn't beat some of the dishes in Thailand I've had. In term of spiciness, cuz I have to agree, Sichuan is amazing in term of flavours, everyone who can handle it should try! Amazing Mandarin skills too, bravo!

I was on a trip to Sichuan for 3 weeks as a kid. Had nothing but Sichuan food for the entire duration and the skin around my mouth was peeling off by the end of it. It's some intense stuff.

I've tried mongolian hot pot .. the spiciest they had available in the resto (but in N.A.). It was a little too spicy. I really didn't enjoy it though it was edible. I guess some of it is acquired.

I had the hottest sichuan noodles are a noodle bar a few weeks back. I finished the bowl of noodles and there was still like half a cup of chillis and stuff on the bottom.
Went to go watch a play afterwards, throughout the entire play and on my way home I could feel this strange warm sensation traveling through my body, craziest feeling.

I ate one in Sichuan where the pot has a "centre" region and a region surrounding that centre. They put spicy soup in the centre and non-spicy soup in the surrounding. The spicy soup was REALLY spicy but also tasty.

In my hometown in Europe there was this Chinese restaurant and they made all sorts of dishes, most of them adapted to european taste but they also made this Sichuan chicken dish that was FIERY. If you ordered it the waiter would be like "are you sure? It's very spicy" and I was like hell yeah but then they renovated the restaurant and they changed the menu and they don't make the spicy Sichuan chicken anymore. They make goddamned sushi instead. So sad.

I just got back from Chengdu, I found the level of spiciness to be a bit overstated, even the spiciest options weren't all that bad. The numbing feeling is a bit different from what you get from the west though lol. Food is still great.
