AUTOMATIC
Tokio Hotel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Automatic (automatic, automatic, automatic)
Automatic (automatic, automatic, automatic)

You're automatic and your hearts like an engine (whoa-oh)
I die with every beat
You're automatic and your voice is electric (whoa-oh)
Why do I still believe?
It's automatic everywhere in your letter (whoa-oh)
A lie that makes me bleed
It's automatic when you say things get better (whoa-oh)
But they never

There's no real love in you
There's no real love in you
There's no real love in you
Why do I keep loving you?

Feels automatic, counting cars on a crossroad (whoa-oh)
They come and go like you
Feels automatic, watching faces I don't know (whoa-oh)
Erase the face of you
It's automatic, systematic, so traumatic
You're automatic

There's no real love in you
There's no real love in you
There's no real love in you
Why do I keep loving you?

Automatic (automatic, automatic, automatic)
Automatic (automatic, automatic, automatic)
Automatic (automatic, automatic, automatic)
Automatic (automatic, automatic, automatic)

Each step you make
Each breath you take
Your heart, your soul
Remote-controlled
This life is so sick
You're automatic to me
(There's no real love in you)
(There's no real love in you)

There's no real love in you
There's no real love in you
There's no real love in you
There's no real love in you
There's no real love in you
Why do I keep loving you?

Automatic (automatic, automatic, automatic), there's no real
Automatic (automatic, automatic, automatic), love in you
Automatic (automatic), why do I

Automatic (automatic), keep loving you?
Automatic

Overall Meaning

The song "Automatic" by Tokio Hotel talks about a toxic relationship that the singer keeps going back to, despite the lack of real love and the constant hurt that they feel. The other person in the relationship is described as being "automatic," with no genuine emotions or love. The singer compares this person to an engine, with their heart beating like a machine. They are also described as having an "electric" voice, but it's unclear whether the singer still believes anything they say. The chorus repeats the title of the song, emphasizing the automatic and seemingly heartless nature of the other person.

The second verse continues the metaphor of automatic things, with the singer watching cars and faces go by like the other person who comes and goes from their life. The other person is described as being systematic and traumatic, which further emphasizes the damaging nature of the relationship. The bridge of the song talks about how the other person seems remote-controlled, with each step and breath they take feeling predetermined and robotic. The outro again repeats the chorus, with the singer questioning why they keep loving someone who doesn't have any real love in them.

Overall, "Automatic" is a powerful and emotional song about the pain and confusion of being trapped in a toxic relationship with someone who doesn't seem to feel anything real.
