After Bill Kaulitz’s participation in a children’s Star Search in 2003 at age thirteen (which he lost in the quarter-final), he was discovered by music producer Peter Hoffmann. Devilish changed their name to Tokio Hotel: “Tokio” is the German spelling of the Japanese city Tokyo, due to a love of the city, and “Hotel” due to their constant touring and living in hotels.
Soon after Sony BMG took them under contract, Hoffmann hired David Jost and Pat Benzner into the team of creators and authors, and had them give the teens instruction on songwriting and instrument playing; most of the songs of the first album were written by Hoffmann, Jost and Benzer (including the singles Scream and Rescue Me which were completely written by them), only the single Unendlichkeit was written completely by Tokio Hotel themselves. However, shortly before release of their first album, Sony terminated their contract. In 2005, Universal Music Group took Tokio Hotel under contract and developed a marketing plan. The band has now become one of the biggest acts originating from Germany, The bands success has reached The United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, France and various other countries.
Tokio Hotel released the album "Humanoid" in Europe And the United States, With translations in German and English.

Seeing I'm not a fan of Tokio Hotel and most of their music it wasn't surprising I didn't like their new album much. Strangely enough I am totally in love with the down-stripped, acoustic versions of "Never Let You Down" and "Girl Got A Gun". They did an awesome job here. If they ever decide to make an acoustic version of Kings of Suburbia I sure as hell would buy it.
On a second note, despite my personal taste in music I do have a lot of respect for these four guys who get so much hate and shaming in their own home country and rose above it. I never understood why everyone seems to have the need to down-talk them. Yes, they were young when they rose to fame. Yes, Bill has a nack for looking different. Yes, they are controverse. But so are many other artists in Germany and they don't get so much s***. They are musicians and surprise ... They actually can do their job right, unlike so many of the over-hyped pop idols nowadays. There is absolutely no need to constantly bully them. It's disgusting so see and makes me cringe in second-hand embarrassment 'cause I'm German, too.

Lexi Grimbrooke there was much hate, that arose from the fingertips of their classmates (knew one...), also many people did not like that they seemed to be so successful despite their young age. They got so much shit in the beginning, people were throwing things at them during a concert (I was there and saw it... Waltrop 2005), and they never said anything hateful or really bad about these kind of events.

Now they've lost a bit of popularity in Germany Atleast from what I've seen. But they have a pretty strong fanbase in Latin America still

I feel like people tend to criticize them a lot nowadays because they're not the same as what they were when they first rose to fame. But I feel like this is what they really wanna do, their first albums were pretty much generic and now i can see their true identity. Yeah, they aren't as famous anymore, but they finally are doing what they want to and are exposing themselves in a new way. Plus you gotta respect the fact that they grew up together and keep playing all togethe.
