They released their first self-titled album, and played several major European festivals; namely the Aardschock Festival (with Venom & Metallica) and headlining the Earthquake Festival. They started writing and recording a new album, what was to become their most popular, Night of the Blade, but after it was finished, Alan Marsh was forced out of the band by the Management and Record Company, who wanted a more commercially viable vocalist.
Vic Wright was recruited, and re-recorded Alan's vocals on the new album. This was released, and followed by another string of festivals, in which they released a third album, Blackhearts and Jaded Spades. This album was more Americanised than their previous offerings, possibly due to the vocalist switch. Many fans disliked the album, and Vic soon left. The band then split up, with several members joining Alan Marsh in his other project, Shogun, and Andy Boulton continuing with the Tokyo Blade name, but not in the Tokyo Blade style.
In the early 1990's, many of the band found themselves together in Mr. Ice, and, due to the strong European support for Tokyo Blade, the management felt as if the band should revert back to the Tokyo Blade moniker. Boulton left the band, however, after more disagreements with the management.
The remainder of the band hooked up with Jez Lee and formed Pumphouse, and recorded an album, but, due to record company politics, it was not released for six years, and, when it was released, it was released under the Tokyo Blade name in order to cash in.
Eventually, the "true" Tokyo Blade put out another album, true in that they were called Tokyo Blade, and didn't have the name forced upon it. The album was Burning Down Paradise, released in 1995.

On Through The Night
Tokyo Blade Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The time has come for you to go
Always knew that this day would come soon
Reality is knocking on your door
You hope to awaken to a dream
Scream like a child, lying still, it cannot be changed
[Chorus]
In the dark of the night
In the light of the day
Sadness in your lonely stare
Something chills you inside
On through the night into the twilight world
On through the night into the twilight world
Shadows close in, your time here is short
It's time to reflect on your life
Can't change your mind, there's only one way
Your spirit starts slipping away
A voice from inside screams out "Why, tell me why I must die"
The end, it is near, and a tear fills your eye
[Chorus]
It's over and over again
[Solo]
[Chorus]
It's over and over again
Over again, over again
The lyrics of "On Through The Night" by Tokyo Blade portray a sense of impending doom that is slowly creeping up on the singer of the song. The song opens with the realization that it's time for the singer to go, and that reality is knocking on their door. The first verse also reveals that the singer had always known that this day would come soon, which builds a sense of anxiety and urgency in the song. The chorus of the song talks about the lonely and sad state of the singer and how they feel something inside them that chills them to the bone.
The second verse sees the shadows closing in around the singer as their time on earth comes to a short end. The singer is left reflecting on their life, knowing they can't change their mind and that there's only one way. The verse ends with the singer screaming internally, asking why they must die, while a tear fills their eyes. The song concludes with the chorus repeating, with the sense of doom hanging constantly over the singer, who knows that it's over, and it will be over again and again.
Overall, the song is a powerful and thought-provoking narrative of someone facing the end of their life, and all the fear, sadness, and regret that comes with it.
