Saturday
Tokyo Rose Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where does time go
When it flies by,
Cause its always leaving me behind?
One of these days,
When I'm the president,
I'll give new meaning to the weekend.

So when we rule the world,
We'll put it up to a vote yeah.
To make another day,
One more like Saturday,
So we can stay late.
All those in favor for
Cutting the workweek short,
Raise your hands and say yeah!

A hard day's work
Deserves a hard day's night.
You should be sleeping like a log.
You work so hard,
And yet you work too late.
I wish you'd just punch
The clock in its face.

So when we rule the world,
We'll put it up to a vote yeah.
To make another day,
One more like Saturday,
So we can stay late.
All those in favor for
Cutting the workweek short,
Raise your hands and say yeah!

We'll make it a crime
To work overtime, no explanations.
If you are accused of work-aholic abuse,
We'll send you on vacation.

So when we rule the world,
We'll put it up to a vote yeah.
To make another day,
One more like Saturday,
So we can stay late.
All those in favor for

Cutting the workweek short,
Raise your hands and say yeah!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tokyo Rose's song "Saturday Everyday" are a commentary on the universal experience of the struggle to balance work and leisure. The singer laments how time passes too quickly and frequently leaves them behind, leading them to dream of a day when they can be the president and create a new definition of the weekend. They then describe a hypothetical world where the people in charge put it to a vote to make another day like Saturday, so people can stay up late and enjoy leisure time.

The lyrics then express frustration with the current work schedule, stating that workers deserve to have a hard day's night of rest after their hard day's work. They wish their coworkers would not work excessive hours and instead punch the clock in its face. The song then becomes more whimsical, promising that in the imagined world where they rule, they will make working overtime a crime and send those accused of work-aholic abuse on vacation.

Overall, the song's lyrics advocate for the importance of leisure time and the right to rest from work. The singer dreams of a world where leisure time is valued as much as productivity and workaholism is discouraged. In this hypothetical world, people would have more leisure time to enjoy, and work would be redefined to allow for more balance in people's lives.

Helped get me through middle school and high school. This was a song that gave me the energy to keep a smile instead of breaking down and hope that things would get better. Things have gotten better in some ways and some things have gotten bad again but it could be worse. So I’ll keep listening and keep looking for the positives in life. Hopefully this song helps give someone else hope and positivity.

This song always will sound like (oh shit that was a bad typo) a writing prompt they made into a song..rhyme and write and don't mention relationships- then..and he we go..a solid kindergarten rhyme scheme and a dumb ass subject that somehow makes a song I fucking love.
