Grennan was born in Bedford. His father is a builder, and his mother was a teacher. He is of Irish/English origin and a big fan of football and particularly Manchester United. He played football at a young age for the Bedford Park Tigers. He attended St Thomas More Catholic School. His younger brother is an aspiring boxer.
At 18, he was mugged by a group of strangers on the street and was left with four metal plates and screws in his jaw that "still hurt when winter comes". He trained to become a professional footballer. He played for Luton Town for a while, tried for Northampton Town and Aston Villa. But he was later released. He worked briefly at Costa Coffee. He told Music Week: "I was close to playing over in the States but something was telling me not to and obviously it was the music".
His musical beginnings are obscure, but he says he was at a house party where he sang "Seaside" from The Kooks. He didn't remember it, but his friends were impressed and pushed him into performing more. He studied acting at university. Also at age 18, he started doing gigs around London with his acoustic guitar, mainly in small pub appearances for almost three years. After a performance at Finsbury pub, a representative of Insanity Records heard him play and offered a contract. His debut EP, Something in the Water was produced by Charlie Hugall. He had his big break when he was featured in the Chase & Status 2016 single "All Goes Wrong" that was picked as "Hottest Record" on Annie Mac's Radio 1 Show. After that he was invited for an appearance on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, and a follow up appearance on BBC Two's show Later... with Jools Holland.[5] The song charted in the UK Singles Chart peaking at number 65. It also charted in Scotland and some European charts.
In 2017, he was shortlisted for MTV Brand New Award singing at MTV Showcase at London's Electric Ballroom on 2 February 2017).[7] Also in 2017, he had a cameo appearance in Charli XCX's music video for her song "Boys" alongside many well-known artists and duetted with grime MC Bugzy Malone on "Memory Lane". He performed in Trafalgar Square during the F1 Live in London show in support of Formula One drivers. He started an all UK tour in March 2018 in support of his upcoming album Lighting Matches due for release in July 2018. His song "Found What I've Been Looking For" appears on the FIFA 18 soundtrack and is also used by Sky Sports as the theme song for Super Sunday.

Don't break the heart
That's loving you
I'm sitting here in this lonely room
No, there's nothing left, it's only me and you
Holding onto heaven
But the heavens closed down on me
Nothing lasts forever, nothing goes to plan
Don't you lose your grip, you're letting go of my hand
'Cause every single second
Is a second that we can't get back
Here we go, growing cold in the silence
Never know 'til you hear all the sirens
I should go but if this is the end of the line then
Hold me close
And we can lay here one last time
Don't slip away, leave me behind
I'm on my knees, I'm begging you
Don't break the heart
That's loving you
Try my best at being brave
But this is more than I can take
I'm on my knees, I'm begging you
Don't break the heart
That's loving you
One minute, you're here, then you're gone the next
Turning into strangers like we never met
Counting every blessing
Like a lesson that you taught me
Here we go, growing cold in the silence
Never know 'til you hear all the sirens
I should go but if this is the end of the line then
Hold me close
And we can lay here one last time
Don't slip away, leave me behind
I'm on my knees, I'm begging you
Don't break the heart
That's loving you
Try my best at being brave
But this is more than I can take
I'm on my knees, I'm begging you
Don't break the heart
That's loving you
That's loving you
That's loving you
That's loving you
Don't break the heart
That's loving you
Here we go, growing cold in the silence
Never know 'til you hear all the sirens
I should go but if this is the end of the line then
Hold me close
And we can lay here one last time
Don't slip away, leave me behind
I'm on my knees, I'm begging you
Don't break the heart
That's loving you
Try my best at being brave
But this is more than I can take
I'm on my knees, I'm begging you
Don't break the heart
That's loving you
I'm sitting here in this lonely room
No, there's nothing left, it's only me and you
Holding on to heaven
But the heavens closed down on me
The song "Don't Break The Heart" by Tom Grennan is a heartbreaking ballad about a relationship being on the verge of breaking down. The lyrics paint a picture of desperation and vulnerability as the singer pleads with their partner not to break their heart. The first verse begins with the singer on their knees, begging their partner not to hurt them. They are in a lonely room, and they feel like there's nothing left but them and their partner. The next part of the verse shows the singer holding onto heaven, but the heavens have closed down on them. This is a metaphor for their relationship, which they had thought was their saving grace, but now it seems that it is not going to work out.
The second verse talks about how nothing lasts forever, and nothing goes to plan. The singer urges their partner not to lose their grip and let go of their hand. They want to make every single second count because they can never get it back. The chorus is a repetition of the opening lines, emphasizing the plea for the partner not to break their loving heart. The next verse talks about how they were once close, but now they are turning into strangers. The singer learns to count every blessing as a lesson that their partner taught them.
Overall, "Don't Break The Heart" is a heartbreaking plea for a relationship that is hanging by a thread. The powerful imagery of the heavens closing down and turning into strangers is a metaphor for how relationships can turn sour, and there is nothing we can do about it.

This reminds me of that initial hit of devastation, when your actually realising your heart is about to be broken.. Time slows down, and you know there’s absolutely nothing you can do, but let it play out like a car crash in slow motion.. Only you feel the impact at full speed.. 😓
