My Vampire Heart
Tom McRae Lyrics

Adrift in the dark
I'm clutching your words
To my vampire heart once more
So let in the light
Turn me to dust
If it don't end in Bloodshed dear
Here we are
In the darkest place
My reflection
Shows only your face
Something is found
Something is lost
Went looking for clues
On the streets of old New York
And I spilled someone's blood
I broke someone's heart again
Someone you know
You're looking at him my friend
And the people in our lives
We all leave behind
Leave behind
Here we are
In the darkest place
To keep from forgetting
I picture your face
And I wonder
While we count the cost
Which is sweeter
Love or it's loss
So I curse you
My vampire heart
For letting me you love you
Love you
For letting me love you
From the start
Tom McRae's "My Vampire Heart" is a hauntingly beautiful song with lyrics that delve into the dark depths of love and loss. The song speaks of a deep, all-consuming love that can sometimes be as destructive as a vampire. The singer is lost and adrift in the dark, clutching the words of the person they love to their vampire heart. They are willing to let the light in and turn to dust, but they know that true love often ends in bloodshed.
The lyrics also explore the idea of reflection and how the person we love can become our sole focus. The singer sees only their lover's face in their reflection, reflecting the all-consuming nature of love. The song takes a darker turn when the singer talks about spilling someone's blood and breaking someone's heart again, implying that their love has caused pain and destruction to others as well.
The chorus speaks of the bittersweet nature of love, wondering whether the sweetness of love or the pain of its loss is stronger. The final lines of the song are a curse to the singer's vampire heart for allowing them to love so deeply, highlighting the destructive nature of the love they feel.
Overall, "My Vampire Heart" is a powerful and evocative song that explores the complexity and darkness of love.

I caused someone pain, again
Someone you know
The person I hurt is someone you know
You're looking at him my friend

Our loved ones
We all leave behind

I visualize you
And I wonder
I contemplate
While we count the cost
As we weigh the pros and cons
