Hey
Tom Milsom Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, stop that!
Where are you going?
This is why the rules were made.
Hey, stop that!
What are you doing?
Though the fence is still electrocuted
you could still be prosecuted
and I know you think it moot
(it won’t affect you)
but it will,
but it will.
Hey, stop that!
What are you doing?

You wont get away with this!
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey…

Overall Meaning

The song "Hey" by Tom Milsom speaks of a person who is being reckless and careless, willing to break rules and take risks without considering the consequences. It seems like someone is trying to reason with this person, telling them to stop and think about what they are doing. The first line "Hey, stop that!" is repeated throughout the song, indicating the urgency and importance of the message.

The artist talks about how rules are made for a reason and that they should be followed. The electric fence symbolizes a barrier that they shouldn't cross, but the person is stubborn and doesn't want to listen. They are warned about the danger and potential consequences of their actions, but they seem to be indifferent about it, thinking that it won't affect them in any way.

The repetition of the phrase "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey…" gives a feeling of dismay and disappointment, like they have seen this before and have failed at making the person understand. The song is a cautionary tale about taking risks without weighing the consequences and how this can lead to unwanted results.

Lyrics:
Time should stop moving
And never go beyond today
If we could find a way to stop
The world would be okay

If I'd thought about it sooner
It wouldn't have been downhill
But I'll make the best of what I've got
While I've got it still

Do you wanna know
A little irony about me

I don't know if I should say
This little irony about me

But it's funny cause my heart has started

Beating
It never has before today
It must be something in the way
She looks at me

She started screaming
Before I made the earth stand still
Of all the people I could kill
It had to be

Do you wanna know
A little irony about me

I don't know if I should say
This little irony about me

But it's funny because love was just a

Feeling
Irrelevant before today
But now I've gotta find a way
To make her real

Freezing
Was just for me to get away
But now I need to learn to stay
And make her real

When all the world around me
Moved so unpredictably
A moment never lasted long enough
For me to see the reason why

Love never came to me
It moves unscientifically
But now you're trapped and I can
Find a reason now to ask you one more time

Do you wanna know
A little irony about me

I don't know if I should say
This little irony about me

But you'll move me more forever
Than you ever could before today.

Street Cleaning Day is such an iconic episode.
It just feels different without this song.

I feel like knowing the history of this song makes it more interesting to me- it’s such a fascinating piece of music even now compared to when i heard it first 8 years ago now

I was introduced to this song and the artist many years ago. it used to be a gentle wake up alarm for me back when I was in my second year of college, would wake up to it and get to work during finals season. I’ve completely forgot about it since and for some odd reason remembered it existed now, seemingly out of nowhere with no trigger. Funny how our minds work like that.

Listening to it now evokes a lot of memories of that time for me, though it’s disheartening to read about the singers past conduct now. I will try to enjoy it nonetheless if only for the sentimental value it holds.

I really adore this song. I've been listening to it on a constant loop at work for the past few days! It was one of the things that sold me on Welcome to Night Vale. It's amazing that they showcase little known talent such as this. I'm definitely going to check out more stuff from this performer!

This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

This song used to be one of my favorites, after finding out what Tom did it just makes me feel vaguely sick that I ever supported him

Stolen Magic Keep art and personal life separate. I love this song and always will despite his actions.

Disregard the following statement:

Your choice to do that. I found this song years after all that took place, took place. Altough I knew who he was I didn't connect that the person singing was him for ages. I find his music fairly beautiful, and slightly altered in a weird way once I found out who he was. If i'd have watched his channel and liked him then I think his music would be unsettling, when you listen to music (or at least when I do), you throw yourself into it, you open yourself up to the music, and by extension the artist. I wouldn't feel comfortable listening to it regularly but every so ofter I remember it exists. I don't think the question 'is art seperate from the artist' has a definite answer, depends on who your asking.
