The War Inside

I can't see when the sun's gonna shine
I'm alright without you
I can leave this world behind
I'm out here on my own
I'm out here all alone
So high
Hell bound
Helpless heart about to drown
I need
To change the things that I believe
Bye, bye
I can't win the war inside
So high
I can hear the angels cry
Hell bound
Helpless heart about to drown
I need
To change the things that I believe
Bye, bye
I can't win the war inside
I'm out here on my own
I'm out here all alone
So high
I can hear the angels cry
Hell bound
Helpless heart about to drown
I need
To change the things that I believe
Bye, bye
I can't win, I can't win
Bye, bye
I can't win, I can't win
Bye, bye
I can't win the war inside
The lyrics to Tom Morello Chris Stapleton's song "The War Inside" speaks of the internal struggles and battles that we face as human beings. The lines "I can't leave when I want to, I can't see when the sun's gonna shine" expresses how we can feel trapped and unable to move forward in life. The following lines "I'm alright without you, I can leave this world behind" shows how we may feel as though the people around us are holding us back or hindering our progress in life.
The chorus of the song talks about being so overwhelmed by our internal battles that we are on the verge of drowning: "So high, I can hear the angels cry, Hell bound, helpless heart about to drown, I need to change the things that I believe." The repetition of the phrase "Bye, bye, I can't win the war inside" highlights the constant battle that we all go through internally.
In the end, the song is a call to action to change our beliefs and thoughts so that we may win the war inside. The lyrics signify that our internal struggles can only be won if we decide to change our mindset and beliefs.

This is a real diamond. Chris's voice penetrates my skin, and Tom's guitar takes me somewhere far away. Unbelievably beautiful. Thank you very much for this song!
