Wow, was he ever ahead of the curve on this one. When I first heard it, I thought he wrote it after Trump got in. Tom Russell is absolutely awesome!

A Tom Russell classic . What a great song !

Gloria Swanson

I don't think Russell means to imply that these are the only jobs that immigrants from Mexico can do. I think he's saying that a lot of people who pretend to be horrified by illegal immigration are profiting from it even as they make rousing speeches about its evils.

Grandma Cookie bravo. 3 true American musical treasures, willing to turn the light upon their own country’s past. That’s a true patriot. Someone who stands in line and cheers the usual patriotic robotic cheers, are the cheers of people who deserve neither liberty or democracy. John prine’s song your flag decal won’t get you into heaven anymore, or “the great compromise “ are great critique of America. Only the brave critique their country. The spineless ignorant follow each off the cliff of civility

Grandma Cookie

@Carol Mccannon Our "Cheeto in Chief"? " The Horse's Ass leading the Dipshit Brigade"? " Old Horseshit& Hot-air"? " POTUS Garfield"? "The Clueless Leader"? "3-Card Monty Man"? He must be named, he's not some magical, powerful evil- he's just a puffed up wee douch bag from Queens. Same crap, different decade, and the logical outcome of the asshatery begun with Nixon, normalized by Reagan and all the rest.Check out Iris DeMint"Living in the Wasteland of the free" or Woody Guthrie "Deportees".America seems to play footsie with fascism way too often for it to be a coincidence.

@Carol Mccannon look at when it came out. 10 years ago!

Carol Mccannon

I do think he's talking directly to He who must not be named. You know who....

Joe Lochte

Ya think?

Love this song. Beautiful policital statement! I'm Canadian and played in a Texas bar last year to a largely Hispanic audience who had mot heard it.

RagbagMcShag
