Traveling Alone
Tom The Mail Man Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My love left when you went ghost and stole my energy
With my friends ageing and your friends fading, I need you to

Come back, come back, come back, come back
Come back to me
Come back, come back, come back, come back
Come back to me
When I get famous, I won't do you wrong (I won't do you wrong)
When I get mainstream, they'll still be your songs
And you don't worry about a thing, I'm still travelling alone, ooh
Baby, when I get finished at the studio, you know I'm gonna call your phone
Your phone, saying

Come back, come back, come back, come back
Come back to me
Come back, come back, come back, come back
Come back to me

When I get famous, I won't do you wrong (I won't do you wrong)
Why when I tell you the truth, you still look at me like I'm a phoney
One, two, three
Your face tells me what you never say
In the tropics searching for a fucking getaway
I was all you ever needed why'd you run away
Tell me what I gotta do or say for you to

Come back, come back, come back, come back
Come back to me (nah, no, no, no)
Come back, come back, come back, come back
Come back to me (nah, no, no, no)

When I get famous, I won't do you wrong (I won't do you wrong)
You break me apart with your silence, I did nothing wrong
So just
Come back
Come back

Overall Meaning

In the first verse of the song, the artist talks about how his love interest left and took away his energy. He seems to have lost touch with his friends while his lover's friends also seem to be fading away. Hence, he needs his lover to come back to him. The chorus has a similar repetitive message where the artist wants his lover to come back to him. He promises not to do her wrong when he becomes famous and even though he is traveling alone, he still thinks about her all the time. He plans to call her when he gets finished at the studio.

The second verse starts with the artist questioning why his lover looks at him like he is a phony even though he tells her the truth. He goes on to say that her face tells him what she never says and that he is searching for a getaway in the tropics. He expresses that he was all she ever needed and that he is willing to do or say whatever it takes for her to come back.

Overall, the song speaks to the importance of having love and companionship in life. The artist shows vulnerability and admits his mistakes while pleading with his lover to return to him.
