Johnsburg Illinois
Tom Waits Lyrics

She's my only true love
She's all that I think of, look here
In my wallet
That's her

She grew up on a farm there
There's a place on my arm where I've written
Her name next to mine

You see I just
Can't live without her
And I'm her only boy
And she grew up outside McHenry
In Johnsburg, Illinois

When I was a freshman in high school there was this girl from band camp (lolz) who threw herself at me even though I had a girlfriend. We never did the deed. But after I rejected her when she kissed me(honestly the hardest decision at the time) she gave me a picture of her.

7 years later someone told me she died, and when I did a lot of investigating(literally months of research) I finally found her and we talked. When I was 18 and thought she had passed I wrote her name and on my arm. And I haven't lost her picture.

After talking with her, she told me she had a picture of me she has had for thr past 7 years. But when asking her if we could ever get together she just said
"You made me hate bass players, but I love you Chris"
She lives 1400 miles away. And I understand we can't be together. But I heard this song for the first time 2 weeks after talking to her.

This reminds me of an episode of MASH for some reason..

He sings this and Underground in the same album. Golly.

Tom Waits a legend

How beautiful this is.
I think of my true love every time

One of the shortest simplest and the sweetest songs ever. A song about his wife.
