Tomatito became a flamenco sensation at an early age when he was discovered by famed guitarist Paco de Lucía and began working in part with legendary flamenco singer Camarón de la Isla.
In 1979, the trio produced a hit called "La Leyenda del Tiempo." Their partnership continued until Camarón's death in 1992.
A later collaboration included pianist Michel Camilo, producing the albums Spain (2000) and Spain Again (2006).
Tomatito's music is a unique mix of traditional flamenco and jazz. On some albums, such as Barrio Negro, he experimented with Afro-Cuban and Brazilian Music. He has also worked with flamenco singers Duquende and Chano Domiguez among many others.
Tomatito has produced six solo albums and in 2005, won a Latin Grammy for Best Flamenco Record, for his album Aguadulce.

Camarón de La Isla
Voy a perderme contigo
en la espesura del cielo,
quiero que se reflejen
las estrellas en tu pelo.
El agua pura
se refleja mi gitana,
dueña del corazón mío.
El agua pura...
Por Dios alcalde mayor
no le pegue a los ladrones,
porque usted tiene una niña
que parte los corazones.
Ay mare...
El agua pura...

Tomatito's song "La Voz Del Tiempo" is originally a Flamenco song, performed by Camarón de La Isla. The song has a very poetic tone, and the lyrics are full of vivid and sensory images that depict the singer's deep and intense love for his gypsy lover. The song begins with the singer's desire to lose himself and get lost with his lover amidst the dense skies, which he wants to reflect in her hair. The lyrics suggest a feeling of deep passion and longing that the singer has towards his lover. He refers to her as "la dueña de mi corazón," meaning "the owner of my heart."
The song also touches upon social issues, where the singer urges the mayor not to punish the thieves harshly, as he also has a daughter who can break hearts. The inclusion of this verse reveals the societal mindset where the well-being of a powerful individual's family members may impact the actions they take as an authority figure.
The song ends with a repetition of "El agua pura," meaning "the pure water." The phrase is repeated multiple times in the song and can represent purification or cleansing. Overall, the song is a lyrical masterpiece that portrays the intensity, passion, and beauty of love between two people.
