Throughout his career he played with many famous legends like Chet Atkins, Eric Clapton, Sir George Martin and John Denver. Some tracks of note include The Journey (a Top 30 hit in Australia in 1993), Cross The Nullarbor and his cover of Mason Williams's Classical Gas.

Tommy thanks for sharing this song on your Here's How videos. I'm still working on Cannonball Rag but progressing. Maybe this one next. Your explainations and instruction are spot on and excellent. You changed my life about 15-years ago when I first heard Angelina. I toyed with fingerstyle in high school 50-years ago but became dedicated to it after hearing you play. Man Tommy you're one excellent guitar player! I started watching your cover songs on YouTube and loved them. But i was never really interested in your original songs, because i've listen to songs by other fingerstyle guitarists and many are, well, quite boring. But then i saw your "Live and Solo in Pensacola" performance and i was blown away! Every song in that show was so unique and fun, while also being full of emotion! Now i'm going through all of your original songs and i love it, there are so many of them (like this one) that actually make me tear up because they're so beautiful! The day after tomorrow I've got really hard and important exam at my univesity, and I haven't played my guitar for 2 weeks.
When I saw on my phone that Tommy uploaded the video I've immediately watched this and it made me calm and happy, I haven't feel like that until now.

1:16 that stretch. I tried my best to pull my left hand fingers apart and I'm one fret short and cannot make that stretch from 5th to 9th fret. It's literally physiologically impossible for me and my hands are actually quite big. I have tremendous respect for Tommy for dedicating his life to such beautiful craft, to play such beautiful melody with techniques that hardly anyone else can.

I also struggled with that stretch at first. I eventually found that the stretch isn't too hard. It's all in how you re-angle your wrist. Tommy makes it look easy due to his superhuman hands, but it can be done with a bit of wrist angling.

yeah it's all about wrist posture. When I was learning those who wait, the intro reaaallly buggedme at first, but after lots of practice the stretches are very easy. All about practice, even with the reaches.

Having said that, there is one stretch he does in the saltwater intro that does defy logic lol.

Tommy should live 100 more years because we need people like him he is a legend guitarist but at the same time he is very kind and a humble human being...... i mean i consider him Mr. guitar too like people used to reckon chat atkins...... he is not a master he is beyond that..... the feel he gives i mean who’s gonna replace him no one man no one, there will be no another chat atkins and no tommy..... this guy changed my life as a guitarist or having said that as a musician and as a human being too..... love and a fan from

I was in Malta, and extremely surprised to see posters for this guy's live show stuck up everywhere, having only found out about him a few weeks prior.
I was so bummed out that my flight out was booked for the day before he was due to be on stage. Please, come back sometime - I'll be sure to stick around longer to see you play.

I am one of the idiots who uses thumb and index finger for base and chord line
It is the way I taught myself when I was a kid 50 years ago and only heard Chet Atkins on Dutch radio and only 7 years later I saw that he did it totally different than I (still ) do..
And Why not, I still have three fingers left on my right hand to do silly stuff with :)
