(2) Tommy Guerrero may be better known in the world of skateboarding than music. Born in San Francisco, Guerrero joined the skateboard company Powell Peralta in 1985 and became one of the original members of the legendary "Bones Brigade" team. Always interested in music, Guerrero was a fan of the high-energy punk music that surrounded the early-'80s skate scene. Since then, Guerrero has become an accomplished bassist and guitarist with influences as diverse as John Coltrane, Latin Playboys, and Tortoise. Guerrero released his debut album, Loose Grooves & B**tard Blues, in 1998 on the Galaxia label. To support the record, Guerrero turned to his friends -- skateboarder and bassist Monte Vallier, DJ Gadget, and former Threeo drummer Tim DeGaugh -- to form the band Jet Black Crayon, who toured with Isotope 217 in 1999. With help from Gadget, he released Hoy Yen A**'n in 2000, as well as the solo record A Little Bit of Somethin' on Mo Wax. His warm, soulful music continued on 2004's Soul Food Taqueria, and after the five-song EP Year of the Monkey, Guerrero moved to Quannum, issuing From the Soil to the Soul in 2006. Another record on the Galaxia imprint, Return of the B**tard, followed in 2007. Four years later, Lifeboats and Follies was released on the same imprint and largely featured the same cast (including an appearance by Money Mark). In 2012, Guerrero recorded his seventh solo album No Man's Land which was released in Japan. Two years later, the album would receive worldwide distribution via the Modulor label. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi

She's stirrin' in a pot
Daddy's sittin' waiting to see what she's got
He's sitting by the fireplace with his hands on his
Knees
He looked around at mama said, "Hey, you better come
See about me."
Yea, get it on
Right on
Now every time I see you
You know you're lookin' cool
You're lookin' like you want to do it
But, you ain't got the tools
I wanna teach you somethin' that's not from the Golden
Rule
This is something baby that you can't learn in school
Let's get funky
Yea, get it on
Right on
Let's get funky, yea
Baby, get it on
Right on
Right on
Get it on, get it on
Right on
(Incomprehensible)
Right on
(Incomprehensible)
Right on
(Incomprehensible)
Right on

Right on
Do it, do it, do it.
Right on

Meaning
It matters not where you been
But where you wanna go
If the music moves you just get on the floor
And let's get funky
Get it on
Right on
Let's get funky
Baby, get it on

Let's get funky
Get it on
Right on
The song "Funky" by Tommy Guerrero starts with Mama being in her kitchen while cooking something. Daddy is waiting for her eagerly while sitting next to the fireplace with his hands on his knees. He sees Mama and asks her to come and see about him. Then the song continues with the refrain "Let's get funky, yea, get it on, right on."
The song then shifts to addressing a person who is "looking like you want to do it but, you ain't got the tools". The singer wants to teach that person something that cannot be learned in school. He emphasizes that it does not matter where you have been, but where you want to go. And if the music moves you, you should just get on the floor and let's get funky.
The song reminds us of how music and dance can make us feel free and alive. The lyrics portray a carefree attitude, and the music emphasizes the rhythm and beat, making it impossible not to move your body.
