Tommy McCook described the Supersonics as being in existence from 1965 to the early 1970's. They played extensively for school graduations etc but frequently found it difficult to get general bookings due to the increase in violence at dances in 1966 associated with the Rude Boys. This eventually lead to curfews being imposed from 10pm in parts of Kingston and therefore a drastic reduction in dances, for three months the band were unable to obtain any bookings in Kingston at all. The band did however continue to record extensively, most notably for Duke Reid at Treasure Isle.
Though best remembered for their rocksteady and early reggae recordings the band also played various other styles live including bossa nova, calypsos and waltzs.

When you have gone
Will color all my dreams
And light the dawn
Look into my eyes my love and see
All the lovely things you are to me
It was far, too high
A teardrop kissed your lips
And so did I
Now when I remember spring
All the joys that love can bring
I will be remembering
The shadow of your smile
Tommy McCook's song The Shadow Of Your Smile is a wistful ballad that talks about how the memory of a loved one can color all of your dreams and light the dawn even when the person is not around anymore. The lyrics communicate the feelings of a person who is reminiscing about their love and remembering all the lovely things about them. The lyrics convey that the writer is deeply in love and that their love has an indelible effect on them. The lyrics paint a picture of someone who is so in love that they can see nothing but the beauty in their loved one.
The lyrics also share the story of a wistful little star that was far too high, and how a teardrop kissed your lips, and so did I. This could be interpreted as the writer being unable to attain the height of their partner, but still, their love was strong enough to reach the same heights. The writer is incredibly sentimental, and even the memory of spring or joys that love can bring, they will always remember the shadow of their love's smile. The song uses musical imagery to evoke a feeling of nostalgia or longing and could be described as an ode to the power of love and the effect it can have on us.

Look into my eyes and see how much I love you
All the lovely things you are to me
See all the wonderful things you mean to me
Our wistful little star
Our small, sad star
It was far, too high
It was too distant and unreachable
A teardrop kissed your lips
I kissed your lips with a teardrop
And so did I
Because I was also crying
Now when I remember spring
When I think back to springtime
All the joys that love can bring
All the happiness that love can bring

I will recall and think of
The shadow of your smile
The memory of your smile
