They don't know how I feel
They call it a teen-age crush
They can't believe this is real
They've forgotten when they were young
And the way tried to be free
All they say is "This young generation
I know that I know my own heart
But you say I'm trying to rush
Please, don't try to keep us apart
Don't call it a teen-age crush
They've forgotten when they were young
And the way tried to be free
All they say is "This young generation
Is just not the way it used to be"
I know that I know my own heart
But you say I'm trying to rush
Please, don't try to keep us apart
Don't call it a teen-age crush
Tommy Sands's song "Teenage Crush" is a ballad about a young person in love, but feeling misunderstood by adults who don't take their emotions seriously. The opening verse introduces the title of the song and the main concern of the singer - that adults don't know the intensity of their feelings. He urges them to remember their own teenage years and how they wanted to be free. He believes that his generation is disparaged by adults who don't understand their uniqueness.
The chorus repeats the phrase "teen-age crush," which has a somewhat trivializing effect on the singer's feelings. He wants to emphasize that what he is feeling is real and significant, not just a passing fancy. He is frustrated by the adults' attitude and doesn't want them to stand in the way of his love.
The second verse picks up where the first left off, reiterating the theme of adults having forgotten their youth. Again, the singer asserts that he knows his own heart and resents being told that he is rushing into things. He begs the adults not to call it a teen-age crush, as if that diminishes what he is feeling.
Overall, the song is a plaintive plea for understanding and acceptance of young love. The singer wants to be taken seriously and trusted to make his own decisions. He is tired of being dismissed as just another teenager with a crush.

Tommy Sands had a beautiful voice . He was the total package. He could sing. He could act and he was so gorgeous ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ. He had it all. I think that he should of went farther with his career. He is in my opinion so so underrated as an Entertainer.

If he hadn't divorced Nancy Sinatra he would have gone much further in show business.

In 1967 my family moved into a house in Houston & we found several 45โs in the attic. This was among them as well as an early recording by Charlie Daniels (as Charley & the Jaguars) called โIn the Middle of a Heartacheโ, Rhythm of the Rainโ by the Cascades, and several others from the late 50โs - early 60โs. Many fond memories of listening to them as a kid.

I think Frank Sinatra did Tommy a favor. without meaning to. Tommy was a one hit wonder. In that era, Tommy had competition he'd have never outdone...Elvis, Bobby Vinton, Connie Francis. and all the other great, great singers we had back then. How about the great success and songs, the duets, of Nancy and Lee Hazlewood? No. Tommy Sands was a one hit wonder, and even he knew it.
