Rock with the Caveman
Tommy Steele & Lulu Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The old-time cave dweller lived in a cave
Here's what he did we he wanted a rave
He took a stick and he drew on the wall
Man, a fellah had to settle for
Rock with the caveman
Roll with the caveman
Shake with the caveman
Baby, make with the caveman, oh boy
Shake with the caveman
Stalactites, stalagmiite
Hold your baby very tight

His way with women was rather neat
He'd love a girl right off her feet
You know the lyric writers would never lie
It's where they got the sayin' ""starry eyed""
Rock with the caveman
Roll with the caveman
Shake with the caveman
Make with the caveman, oh boy
Shake with the caveman
Stalactites, stalagmiite
Hold your baby very tight

(Saxophone Solo)

Piltdown poppa sings this song
""Archaeology's done me wrong""
The British Museum's got my head
Most unfortunate 'cause I ain't dead
Rock with the caveman
Roll with the caveman
Shake with the caveman
Break with the caveman

Make with the caveman
C-A-V-E-M-A-N, Caveman!

Overall Meaning

"Rock With the Caveman" is a song about the primitive cave-dwelling human and their way of life. The lyrics focus on the caveman's methods of entertainment, courtship, and even their legacy. The song paints a vivid picture of the caveman's culture and the joy they found in simple things like drawing on walls or dancing around a fire. The lyric "Here's what he did when he wanted a rave, he took a stick and he drew on the wall" shows the ingenuity of early humans and their resourcefulness. The song is an ode to human history, and it reflects the wonder we feel when we think about how our ancestors lived.

Tommy Steele's song also touches on the relationship between men and women in the prehistoric era. The lyric "His way with women was rather neat, he'd love a girl right off her feet" describes the caveman's courtship rituals and their ability to charm the opposite sex. The song suggests that the charm and wit of cavemen were inherited traits that have made their way to modern times. It highlights the fact that our ancestors, just like us, had the capacity of love and the need for companionship.

Overall, "Rock With the Caveman" is a lighthearted celebration of the human experience. It is a reminder that even though we have come a long way from drawing on walls and dancing around fires, our caveman roots are always with us.

I’m ashamed I even started to watch this. We all age. Let’s do it gracefully. For ourselves and for others

@angelea2184

I refuse to watch it at all.

@thedancingmerganser9292

Well it was an odd draw in. The pronunciation was curious as well. I'm not sure what the point of it was. Pretty woman, some still are, some got seriously ill and died.
I didn't wait for a punchline.

However, the movie stars have one advantage over aging gracefully, and that is excessive plastic surgery. And certain other stars have about 12 different professionals who act as dieticians, life coaches, mind coaches, motivational coaches, fitness coaches, and after all that, it's eye opening to know that they die of preventable things like cardiac arrest and so on. Makes you wonder about the money they spend on rubbish, just to stay in top.

@amberspaulding

I'm also ashamed!
